Rachel was burning hot.

Everything was on fire, every joint and muscle roasting in a sea of burning acid.
She trembled feverishly, fire coursing through her veins, making her spasm with agony.

Maddie watched from Selene's pocket mirror as Magnus bathed Rachel's brow.
"She's burning up. This is not good. Travis, go see if you've got any fever medication. Owen, go see what she's got in her magic supplies."

Selene sniffed. "I think we should take her back to the hospital."

"I'd be very willing to do so, if this were in any way some mundane illness. Unfortunately, given it's origin, taking her to the hospital could potentially be more dangerous in the long run, if..."
"If what?" Cried Selene.

"Um..." Magnus scrambled for words. "Let me put it like this... would you take someone who'd been bitten by a Werewolf to a hospital?"
Selene blinked. "In my personal experience, no. Not unless you can guarantee they won't change... why? She wasn't bitten by a Werewolf."

"No. She was gashed by a Draugr. Now think about what Draugr are... or were, before they came all... walking dead."

Selene thought. Then gasped. "So what you're saying is... those things... are caused by some kind of... infection or something?"

"It's a possibility. Think about it. Downworlder's disappearing on mass, later returning as these things. But there's no signs of how. It's not necromancy, it's not some kind of Frankenstein thing. In fact, they're not dead at all. And it's not a curse. It's not magic.
This is just a theory, total speculation, but it fits.
It's something the Clave wouldn't necessarily expect or be prepared for. Some kind of... downworlder disease. One that the like of has never been seen before."

Selene swallowed. "And you think... mum..."
Magnus nodded. "It's a possibility. It's just... the likes of this, to my knowledge, have never been seen before."

"Shows how much you know." Came a voice.

Evelyn strode into the room, carrying a large leather book. "It's not 'never been seen before.' Just not for a very long time."
