Evelyn Mater had never before been afraid of her own house.
The big, empty rooms and lonely, echoing halls had never seemed threatening to her. Never once had the shadows scared her, or the darkness made her fear.

Now though, the place was like her own personal hell.

Everywhere she went, there was someone. Someone who wanted something, though she almost never knew what.
The worst one was Sebastian. He would just... talk to her.
And it was almost always about Nyx.

How long had she had Nyx before they were separated?

What day was Nyx actually born on?

And his latest favorite; Who was Nyx's father?

Evelyn had just decided to confine herself to her room. That way, she could avoid awkward and personal questions.
And also, she was pretty convinced Lilith was considering eating her or something. She kept giving her these looks.

No, what she needed to do was get out and, something she'd never thought she'd have to do again, go tell the Clave.
All without being caught and possibly killed.

Her window was sealed shut, there was no exit that way. But she was free to move around the building, and that gave her more of a chance. She just had to slip the almost permanent watch they had on her.

Tentatively, she opened the door, peering down the hallway. No one in sight, but that didn't necessarily mean anything. The trick was to not be obvious. Just make it seem like she was taking a walk or something. Even if she didn't get out today, she could still plan her grand escape.

Slipping into the halls, she walked casually, heels clicking gently on the wooden floor.

A plan was formulating in her mind already. The mansion itself was had been taken over, but there may be one place that was still hers, one place where she had an advantage.

It was just getting there that was an issue.
