Luci was getting bored with being helpful.
She didn't even know what she was looking for, had lost all sense of direction and was beginning to get hungry. And the worst part was, she'd barely been there an hour.
A wall. Why were they looking for a wall?
And the reflections were getting to her again.
She'd see them, out of the corner of her eye, all around her.As if they were closing in on her.
Hunting her.Shoving the feeling away, she pushed forwards.
Then, she saw it.Giving a shout to the others, she rushed forwards, gazing up at the metres high sheet of stone that stood so out of place, red-brown against the glassy surroundings.
As she peered closer, she saw that the red was not part of the stone at all, but intricate cave painting, a swirling sea of images.
Different figures were painted in strange, almost grotesque fashion, which took a moment for Luci to work out.
Then it clicked.
Each figure represented a different type of downworlder or demon, signified by a particular aspect. She'd seen similar techniques used in hieroglyphs and other ancient picture based languages, although not like this. This was based entirely around downworlders, and seemed to be telling a story, or multiple stories.Although she almost felt insulted that what she assumed was the representation of faeries bore two thumb smears that appeared to be wings, making it look in her opinion like some prehistoric Tinkerbell.
Then again, it was a cave painting, it wasn't expected to be great on detail. And besides, it was better than the representation of the vampires, who bore fangs like barbecue forks.
Her eyes drifted across the stone, fixing on one scene.
Unlike the others, it had barely any figures, instead just furious lines splaying out from a point. What was that?
The sun? A light source? An explosion? Or maybe something more like impact lines, representative of motion? Or even sound? She leant forwards, squinting at it.
A hand came down on her shoulder. "Don't."What do you think?
