"Because..."
"Because what, honey?" U/N seethed, boring his eyes onto hers with intensity. A/N took another sip from her margarita, propping her feet up the wooden table.
"Because I forgot."
To U/N, it was like the whole world stopped around him. How could she forget that a child was missing? That her very own niece was gone?! She didn't do the same for Mimi, she went crazy, bawling her eyes out and whatnot, posting pictures, calling everyone she knew, going out and screaming her name at three in the morning like a madman..why hadn't she done the same for you?
Is it because she thought Y/N was the reason? The reason his child, her child, was lost? Was she truly blaming her niece for doing something she absolutely cannot even do at an age like hers? That was absolutely infuriating.
U/N stood up from his seat, marching over to where his wife had the nerve to sit calmly on a chair.
"How.." He gritted his teeth. "Could you..FORGET?! This a child's life at stake! Are you kidding me!? She's your goddamn niece, A/N! You went insane when Mimi's gone, this whole thing with Y/N is practically the same except it seems like you don't care. Are you seriously still trying to blame the loss of our child on another fucking child? Are you serious?!""I'm not blaming her," A/N stood abruptly from her seat to meer U/N's cold stare. "All I'm saying is she could have done something! She has a quirk! Why didn't she use it?!"
"Because," Resisting the urge to place his hand on his face, he began to emphasize with an icy tone. "Y/N is a goddamn child you insufferable woman! Not every kid out there can already control their quirk like an adult. For fucks sake, you're not even thinking clearly. You've gone mad!"The woman threw her hands up in frustration, gripping at her hair tightly, "Of course I'v gone mad! Our child is lost! Gone! Just like that!"
"And so is Y/N! You think I haven't gone crazy too?! I was devasted, I was upset. I barely ate, and for a while, all I wanted to do was just lock myself in a room and cry. But even still, I didn't blame it on a young child. She couldn't have done anything! It was unexpected and it wasn't her fault, you have to get it through your head!Silence wavered in the air for a couple moments, each person in the room breathing heavily with their chests heaving up and down. Neither one of them made a move to look each other in the eye, gazing up or at the floor, anywhere just to avoid the eye of their spouse.
"The way you're behaving around your niece," U/N began to start, fists balling on either sides of him. "makes me think that you're actually the one that kicked her out.."
He paused, a sudden wave of realization hitting him, an ickly feeling spreading into his body. He began to put two and two together, from the way A/N behaved to the way she continuously blamed Y/Nz
"Unless..unless...."
A/N raised a threaded bow upwards, ignoring her husband's previous rants,"Unless what, U/N? Unless what?"
The glasses-wearing male took a step back, eyes widening as he pointed at A/N with a glassy look, face dropping when he came to an utter devastating conclusion.
"You were the one who sent her away..."...
"Here, drink some soup," An older man dressed in a kuro montsuki gently handed the young girl a wooden bowl, watching her give him a look and cautiously taking it away from him with an amount of suspicion. He let a kind smile surface his old features, nodding his head smally.
"Go on, it's safe. I promise."She gave him one last glare before slurping its contents down in one go hurriedly, afraid that it were to be taken away from her in an instant.
"Who are you?" She asked once she was done, setting the bowl of soup down onto the table infront of herself. "And should I fear you?"
The man infront of the H/C-haired girl chuckled to himself, peering at her with a curious look in his eyes. He shook his head.
"I am The Boss."
"The Boss?" Her left brow raised. "The Boss of what?"His eyes cast over her small frame, seemingly like he were judging her and immediately her body tensed, suddenly finding her lap very interesting to gaze at, arms trembling slightly under his stare. He found it odd, a hum of confusion spreading out his body. Had he done something?
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have spoke without your permission. Please don't hurt me...""Hurt you?" The Boss questioned, mouth open to gape at the child's words. "What are you talking about? I would not hurt a child."
"Sorry, I'm just so used to it...My auntie always hits me whenever I speak when I'm told not to do so. It hurts when she does it but I got used to it."The old man let out another hum, his brows scrunching together as he thought about what the young girl had said. She was abused, he figured, based on the bruises that showered themselves upon her limbs and at the mere fact that she had openly admitted it with a hint of sadness in her voice. His frown deepened, she was hurt to the point where it no longer affected her, where she got used to it on a day to day basis. No child should be forced to endure something like that, someone who willingly inflicts harm upon a kid is one he cannot stand by and that's saying something with the kind of work he does.
"It's okay, child," The Boss said with a kind smile on his wrinkled face. "From here on out, you will no longer be hurt by a woman such as your auntie. You will be protected in the Shie Hassaikai..."
"Y/N L/N but you can call me Y/N," She finished, holding out her hand for a shake. The man before her took it gladly.
"Alright, Y/N. You can call me Pops."||Starting A New Life by Van Morrison||
