Coronavirus Diary

Day 10 27th March 2020

There are 275 infected people in Northern Ireland, 14,579 in the whole of the UK. Unfortunately three more people died in Northern Ireland, bringing the total up to 13. It's scary how many people are being infected and dying. I hope it'll all be over soon but I don't think it will.

Today I got up earlier than normal because I thought the teacher was going to call to do the interview for my dissertation but he didn't. I'd left Friends on in the background while I was on Buzzfeed and the internet stopped working.

I tried leaving the internet off and using my mobile data and then I reconnected to the Wi-Fi but the internet wasn't back. I tried this a few more times but it still didn't work. So then I went and restarted the router but that didn't help. I told my dad and he called Plusnet to tell them. It turns out that BT turned off our internet to fix a problem we've been having with our landline phones.

I'm so annoyed because the last time they put our internet off it was off for 3 weeks! It's bad enough normally but it's even worse now, I'm stuck in my house and don't have the internet. I use the internet every day and it's awful not having it, especially when I have coursework which I need the internet to do. I can't even go to any libraries because they're all closed. And I can't believe they picked a time like this to take down our internet! Like what if they get coronavirus and can't fix it?! I hate not having internet and I hope when mine's fixed all the people who took it down will have no internet. See how they like it! I'm using mobile data on my phone to write and upload this and I'll use it a bit for other things as well.

Anyway, after an hour or two of waiting for a call and being annoyed about the internet being off I started playing Sims 4 again. I'm going through my first challenge which is the parentcy challenge and it's basically how each generation of parents has effected their kid. Like the first generation is a mum who gets pregnant and quits her job as soon as she has the baby and raises the kid on her own. That child grows up to become a workaholic because his mum didn't have a job. And it keeps going down the generations with a different story. I'm currently on generation 12 and she'll marry a vampire and hopefully have a vampire kid which is the last generation. I got to the top of the doctor career, which took ages to do but I'm glad that I've finally accomplished it.

After playing Sims for hours I watched Sicario 2 and I thought it was a lot better than the first one. In the second there were terrorists blowing up places which was horrible. And then the American government kidnapped a Mexican girl because they wanted two different Cartels to fight each other I think. It was pretty interesting and I liked the movie.

Then I watched Gods of the Game, it's a show where normal people go up against sports stars. The normal people get head starts and extra items to make it more fair and they use a points system. So whoever takes a larger head start against the sports person will get lower points. 

The first person was a cyclist and they had to try to beat her on pedalows but they all lost, even though she went into a tree and was caught in it. The second match was against a tennis player and they had to knock eggs off people's heads and they all lost that one as well. The last challenge was against Ben Cohen who's a rugby player (I know him from Strictly Come Dancing). They had to run and get a try while Ben was running to tackle them. The first guy lost, the woman beat Ben and I thought it was great and then the last guy to go was quite chubby and he only had a 3.5 second head start. So I thought it was almost certain that he would lose, but somehow he managed to run fast and beat Ben. The guy from Scotland who beat Ben won the show because he had taken an 8 point head start, whereas the woman had taken a 7 point head start.

I don't think I could beat him with only a 3.5 second head start, I'd need 10 or more probably. I love the show but my favourite episode was the one where Mo Farah beat everyone with one second left.

Then I watched A Question of Sport and in the Sprint Finish Phil's team took ages to guess Jessical Ennis-Hill which I couldn't believe. And because of that Matt beat Phil.

I was going to bed and my dad was coughing and he said the cough was dry and sore, so I really hope that he doesn't have coronavirus. He's very unhealthy and he smokes and has health conditions so he could die from it. My family has barely been out so I'm really hoping it's just a normal cough.

I was complaining to my mum about all the coursework that I have to do and it's even harder to do it now without the internet. They said it'll be back by Monday but I don't believe them after what happened last time. And if you're thinking about moving to Plusnet then I'd advise against it, they're so bad! This is twice within 2 years that our internet has been turned off. And they're not very helpful either. When we were with Newnet we rarely had problems with the internet and they seemed a lot more competent and my internet was never off for days on end.
