Coronavirus Diary

Day 31 17th April 2020

There are now 2,338 cases in Northern Ireland, 108,692 in the UK and 13,980 in Ireland. It's hard to believe how many people are being infected and dying.

I honestly thought nothing like this would ever happen in my lifetime. When I watched Contagion all those years ago I never actually thought anything like it would happen.

In my lifetime there was the bird flu, swine flu and ebola. I heard about those diseases and I thought they were terrifying when I was younger, but none of them caused countries to go into lockdowns. Covid-19 seems to be a lot more infective than the other viruses and it's pretty worrying.

In China I think they've lifted their lockdown and they aren't getting too many new infections, so that's some good news.

Anyway today I got up and watched Bondi Rescue. There was a guy who had a massive gash in his arm and he couldn't remember how he'd got it. And he was so chilled as well, he hadn't even noticed the cut until someone said. Although he was drunk, so that probably helped with the pain.

I drove my mum to the local shop and I only stalled the car once, it wasn't major and it was when I was reversing.

When I got home I watched Pointless and went on Reddit. One of the questions was capital cities with letters ending in E, N or D and one of the people said London and scored 86 points or something like that. In Pointless the people are meant to try and get low scores and a zero is the best, so they need to try to find obscure answers.

Then I watched a few episodes of Spongebob. Patrick and Spongebob got on the wrong bus and they ended up in this creepy place. The fish were really different to them and they looked pretty scary. Patrick ended up getting the bus without Spongebob and all the buses left without Spongebob. But someone got his balloon for him and blew it up more so that Spongebob could float back home.

In another episode Mr. Krabs made Spongebob and Patrick help him look for treasure which came from the Flying Dutchman's board game. They ended up finding the treasure and Mr. Krabs wanted it all to himself and he argued with Spongebob and Patrick about it. They woke they Flying Dutchman and he was asking who'd dug up the treasure and Mr. Krabs said it was Spongebob and Patrick. It was really funny because the Flying Dutchman gave Spongebob and Patrick two gold doubloons as a reward and Mr. Krabs only got a small plastic treasure chest.

Then I watched House of Games and they had a question where they had to find Venus in a picture of the solar system. I knew where it was because of the mnemonic which is My Very Easy Method Just Shows Us Nine Planets, but I have to ignore the last bit because Pluto isn't a planet anymore. Somehow my mum didn't know where all the planets were.

I played Hungry Shark and I still need to save up for the new shark. I think I'm at about 60,000 out of 150,000 so it'll take a while to buy it. I got a new shark which is even better than the one I'm saving up for because they had a special offer where I could get it for 125 gems. It seemed like a Godzilla thing because it went on the land and crushed buildings.

After that I watched The Good Liar which is a film with Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen. My mum wanted to watch it because she'd read the book of it, so she knew what was going to happen. And my dad spoiled it a bit because he figured out one of the twists before we even started watching the movie.

In the movie Ian was a con artist and he tricked people into putting their money into a different bank account and then he would steal the money. He met Helen on a dating site and they met up and he soon moved in with her because he faked having a bad leg and she felt sorry for him. She was rich so he was trying to trick her into giving him the money.

There were a few twists in the movie and one of them I knew from the start because my dad said about it. But one of the twists shocked and horrified me.

I thought the movie was good. Although more clues to the twist might've been good as it seemed to come from nowhere.

I watched two episodes of Grey's Anatomy and Catherine had the operation, unfortunately part of the tumour is still there. But I think she should be able to live with the cancer. It was so upsetting seeing Jackson so upset, he was really scared when his mum was going into the surgery and he felt helpless. It was really relatable for me because my mum had breast cancer two years ago and it was a really difficult time for me. So what Jackson said in that moment was how I felt two years ago.

My mum is fine now, thankfully they caught the cancer early and got the tiny lump removed. But I was terrified the whole time, especially with my uncle having a brain tumour and dying from it and a family friend who was like a granny to me died from cancer as well. I was thinking it was a death sentence but I'm so relieved that it wasn't. It was the worst I've felt in my life and I still worry sometimes that the cancer will come back.

Meredith's dad also died which was quite sad, although it would've been a lot more upsetting if he'd had a bigger role in the show. I was glad that they seemed to be happier when they were talking when he died since they'd had a pretty difficult relationship.

Also my dad saw on one of the forums that he goes on regularly that someone was going to give out a free PS4 game, controller or a subscription. So my dad asked what I wanted and I told him a few games on my list to get, so he commented that he wanted to get Spider-Man for me. Someone commented saying they'd been selling it but they'd give it to us for free and they said they'd post it tomorrow or Monday. I thought this was a very sweet thing to do and I'm glad that the coronavirus situation has brought out the good parts of some people.
