Castiel Novak has always been quiet, he speaks but not as much as he liked to, he was a genius and somehow that warranted being made fun of or bullied
Before being adopted by the Novak's his biological father would hit him or yell at him every time he stuttered or whispered as a reply and it just gave him even worse anxiety
His new family understands, they don't treat him like a freak, but apart from them he keeps to himself for his own reasons
He liked to spend his free sitting at his window, watching the birds that sat on the tall tree in their nest by his window, waving at the breathtaking creatures, he'd often wonder what their lives were like
But today- was different, he'd been staring at the birds when a car pulled up by the house that was on sale next to theirs
A new family was moving in and Cas caught the eye of one of their sons, and the boy smiled at him waving..
Cas found himself waving back
They never really spoke, whenever he was taking out the trash or going for a run he'd wave at Cas whenever the boy was sat at the window
Cas grew to enjoy this, it made him want to know the boy- find out his name- but he was too shy
"Cassie- lunch is ready" Gabriel his brother said as he opened the door "Cassie?"
Cas turned his head and Gabriel frowned at his brother's red cheeks, "What are you looking at?" He peaked outside Cas' window and saw the boy he must've been staring at
Cas averted his eyes from Gabriel in embarrassment "You're staring at Dean?"
Cas looked at him suddenly "Y-y-you k-know his name?" His words were rushed, Gabriel nodded "Yeah I'm friends with his younger brother"
Gabriel sat with him "Why don't you talk to him Cas?"
Cas shook his head "I-I ca-can't" He fiddled with his glasses, Gabriel decided to drop it not wanting to push Cas anymore
But Cas knew his name "Dean.."
The next time Cas had his little waving session with Dean was different, a car that wasn't theirs pulled up to Dean's house
Dean ran outside the house and 3 teens- Cas assumed were his friends- came out the car, they were kids from their school
Cas assumed that Dean would just ignore him not wanting to let his buddies know that they were..friendly
But Dean still waved at him with a bright smile and Cas managed a small one back
He saw one of Dean's friends grab the boy's wrist and start to say something but Cas didn't make out what
"What the hell are you doing?- the kid's a freak"
Dean took his wrist back "Shut up- I'm just waving at him, you don't have to be a dick all the time Cole- just 'cause he keeps to himself doesn't mean he's a freak"
"What you got a crush on him or something?"
Dean huffed "On second thought I don't think I wanna hang out today"
Cas frowned as he watched Dean get back inside his house, the friend of his gave Cas a icy glare and Cas decided that was enough window time for today
