Izuku's POV:
I got home after working two more hours, over my usual working hours, to help Nakamura-san complete a few more of the wrist launchers. We had completed six of them and we were going to finish the seventh one but he said I could go home and he would finish the rest by himself. Complying with him, due to the sun already setting down and I needed to get home before it got dark, I cleaned up my workspace and left.
When I got home, the lights were all turned off, meaning that mom was still at work. I went into my room and threw my bag on top of the bed as I laid back onto my chair, exhausted from overworking myself. Checking the time once more, I sat up straight as I then pulled out the blueprints for Mei's gift, along with the gift itself, which I barely started on. I used the remaining time I had left before going to sleep to get more work done on the goggles for Mei.
It was the next day, I fell asleep in my chair while I was still working on Mei's gift. I could smell mom's cooking from my room, making my stomach growl. I was so busy yesterday that I skipped dinner. Unable to hold back my hunger, I got up and walked towards the kitchen, where I saw her still cooking.
Inko: "Morning Izuku!" she said cheerfully, "Breakfast is almost done, so why don't you go ahead and take a seat."
Too exhausted to say anything, I only nodded at her as I then walked groggily towards my seat. After a few more minutes, breakfast was served. We quickly ate our breakfast since it was nearly time for us to leave. I got dressed and packed up the things that I need for school. Mom was waiting in front of the door as she reached out her hand to me. I grabbed it and we then walked all the way to school while holding hands.
She gave me her goodbye kisses before she had to leave for work. Once she was out of sight, I could already feel the glares and hear the snickering remarks towards me. Being already used to this, I already came up with a solution. I would look down to avoid eye contact as I made my way to class, hoping that I won't get in trouble with anybody. Luckily nobody came to confront me as I was making my way, but I heard them whispering about me as they then laughed and a couple of other students threw some pencils or crumpled up paper at me.
The bell had rung and everybody was standing in front of their desks while we waited for our teacher. Once she came in, we all welcomed her as we bowed. She noticed the crumpled-up papers and the pencils that were in the trail to my desk.
Teacher: "Midoriya, I need you to stay after class for the mess you caused."
Afraid to say anything back, I only nodded back. She then started roll call while I was thinking in my head of how busy I'll be for the next two weeks. I tried to calculate how many hours per day do I need to work on Mei's gift, how long of a break would I need from sensei's intensive training once I mention that I'll miss a day of training, and how many hours should I help Nakamura-san with his order.
When our homeroom teacher finished the roll call, she had an announcement to make.
Teacher: "Okay, now that we have settled into the new year of school, it is time to see where everyone stands in terms of what they remembered. So what better way to show it than a pop quiz." as she pulls out a stack of paper.
Many groans were said out loud, many panicked by the sudden quiz, I remained quiet since the material was things I mastered a few years ago.
Katsuki: "Hah, a pop quiz, this is going to be easy." Kacchan said cockily.
The teacher handed the tests to the front row as they then passed it down, but when the person in front of me was passing it behind, he dropped it on the floor before I could grab it.
Classmate #?: "Oops, you should have been quicker. I guess quirkless are really incapable." as he then started laughing to himself.
Teacher: "No talking or else I'm deducting points. And Midoriya, clean up the mess."
I hurriedly picked up the tests and grabbed one as I passed it. The exam was fairly easy, simple math problems, kanji pronunciation and stroke orders, simple stuff for 3rd year of elementary. I completed it in less than two minutes, so I just waited as I glanced over at other classmates to see how they were doing since I didn't want to call attention to myself if I was done first. Many of them were struggling as they were fiddling their pencils, trying to figure out the question. I then looked over at Kacchan, who was thinking deeply about each question. I noticed he made a few mistakes on his paper, so I tried to help him out.
Izuku: "Hey Kacchan, the pronunciation for kanji number #2 is wrong." I tried warning him by whispering.
Katsuki: "WHAT DO YOU WANT DEKU?!" he said loudly and annoyed.
Teacher: "Bakugou, what seems to be the problem.?"
Katsuki: "He is trying to ask me something." which made me freeze up as I was trying to help him, the teacher then glared at me.
Teacher: "Cheating and talking are we? I'm taking ten points off your score and you'll be staying here for recess."
I slowly nod as I just focused on my own paper, not looking at anything besides my desk.
The bell rang and everybody passed their tests to the front row. The teacher had collected them and told everyone to go out for recess but reminded me to stay behind. Everybody was excited that the test was over as they then ran outside the class. I stayed behind as I then went ahead and picked up the mess on the floor from my earlier punishment.
Izuku: 'It's going to be a long day.' I thought as I was sweeping the floor and pouring the garbage into the trash can.
