Chapter 69: Escape

Izuku's POV:

The lights had suddenly turned off, making me flinch.

Izuku: "Mei, put on the goggles to see what's going on." I said to her, to which I assumed she nodded her head since I saw some form of head movement as she then put on the goggles. "What's going on?!" I asked as I did my best in using my senses to avoid bumping into things.

Mei: "I see 9 people walking through the door. The shutter is open!" she exclaims.

Izuku: "Try using the scan feature to see if it reconnected with the UCS." while I did my best to see what the blurry figures are up to.

Mei: "It still says no information." she says back to me, which meant the signal was not blocked off from the room but through the entire building. We then heard a loud thud as we heard something crumble. "One of the heroes was charged at and got implanted in the wall," she says.

I was trying to think of a way out of this while the heroes did their best to fight in the dark.

Izuku: "We need to go outside to call for help!" I yelled to the family.

Lackey#3: "Too bad you won't." as they hissed near me. My senses were going off the charts, telling me that I needed to do something, but before I knew it, I was already judo throwing them in mid-air before they hit the ground, barely knocking them out.

Mei: "Way to go muscles." Mei said as I heard her footsteps run closer to me.

Izuku: "Th-Thanks." I was surprised since I didn't even know what happened at that moment. "M-Miss Hatsume, can you use your quirk to see if we are near any enemies?" I asked since having two viewpoints would be helpful in escaping.

MH: "I-I think so. But what about the quirk laws." she asked with concern since she didn't want to get in trouble with the law.

Izuku: "Quirks may not be used publicly without a hero license but people can use their quirks for self-defense. I think this qualifies as self-defense." I said to her as we heard fighting in the back.

MH: "O-Okay." she says as she then activates her quirk, making her eyes glow in the dark.

Izuku: "Let's go!" I shouted as we all held hands and ran together for the exit.

I didn't know what happened that made my body react the way it did when that person sneaked up on me, I hypothesize that it was my training with sensei for my senses, whatever it was, I was relying on those instincts to counter any surprise attacks while Mei and miss Hatsume were guiding us. We then heard large footsteps coming our way.

MH: "One of them is charging straight at us!" she yells.

I couldn't think of a plan to counteract them since I can't see what is actually happening. While I was panicking about what to do, I heard a loud whoosh pass by me and a loud grunt, followed by a loud thud.

Izuku: "What happened!" I asked as I was confused about what was happening.

Mei: "My dad. He used his quirk dash to charge at them and knock them down." she says.

I wanted to take out my notebook to write down notes about his quirk since he was able to tackle a villain who was able to make a hero go flying into a wall, but I couldn't see to write it down and it was not an appropriate time, so instead, I took a mental note.

DH: "Self-defense right?" he asks.

Izuku: "Ye-Yeah. He was the one who came at us first."

DH: "Good, but he won't stay down for long."

Izuku: "R-Right." I said as he rejoined the group.

We continued running past the obstacles while avoiding any attackers on the way. Miss Hatsume was tired from using her quirk, so we had only relied on the goggles to make it all the way through.

Mei: "I see the exit. We are so close." she says, but we all then bumped into something. "What happened?"

Leader: "Huh, who knew that there was somebody who had a gadget to go through the exhibit in the dark. Surprisingly it's not one of the heroes but a civilian." he then began chuckling.

Mei: "I-I can't see him with the goggles."

Leader: "Well, what can I say, technology is my friend and today, it's your enemy." I then heard a click which I heard a loud gasp from Mei.

Mei: "How did you do that?" she asks excitedly.

Leader: "Just a little disrupter that is able to mask me from technology, just not as effective against quirks." he says as I then heard another click. "Now to get rid of the nuisances that are in my way."

I couldn't tell what was going on or if there were more people which Mei's goggles didn't pick up on. I was not sure if Miss Hatsume got enough rest to reuse her quirk again, meaning that we were in the blind for this one. I was panicking about what to do. That's when my instincts kicked in and I took my vial out as I then threw one of my pellets in the direction of where I sensed danger, where I then saw a large flash of light which narrowly missed Mister Hatsume as it lighted up near his face.

Mei: "What were those muscles?" Mei asked excitedly.

Izuku: "Some smoke pellets I use for training. They're more potent than your average smoke pellets. Anyways Mei, I need you to get your parents out of here to call for help."

Mei: "Why us?" she asked, confused.

Izuku: "You are the ones who need to go outside. Your parents both have phones and you're the only one that can guide them out to safety. "

Mei: "What about you?" she asked with a hard to notice subtle worry in her voice.

Izuku: "I'll be stalling for time. I can use the smoke pellets to refract the lights he shoots out, or just use them to throw him off aim. I can use my CQC that I learned from sensei to fight back while using instinct to avoid attacks." I couldn't tell what her facial expression was, but I could hear a jumble of words getting mixed up as she tried to speak before sighing.

Mei: "Just be careful." I nodded at her, where I then felt her rise up and heard her run away from me, probably to her parents.

Leader: "No you don't" I heard from the attacker, to which I threw another pellet at him to throw him off his aim.

Izuku: '2 used, 18 left.' I thought to myself while I was weirded out by how different I acted compared to at school, but it didn't matter, I needed to buy time for Mei and her family to escape while they call for help.

A/N:

Just a quick explanation, DH quirk is called dash, it allows him to charge a very short distance with a large amount of momentum, but it uses a lot of energy and it doesn't reinforce his body, so he has to rely on his physical capabilities to sue his quirk. MH can see the aura produced by people, but not objects, which was why Mei's gift was needed to avoid obstacles. Izuku's will to fight others comes from the need to protect/save others, which is why he mostly never fights back his bullies, he doesn't have the will to save himself.
