MH POV:

I remember the day when my daughter came bursting in as she looked excited.

~~~Months Prior~~~
It was just me and my husband at home as we were cleaning the house. Our daughter went out to buy parts for her "babies".
MH: "How much time do we have until Mei comes back home?" I asked my husband.
DH: "She should be home any minute now?" he said as he was cleaning off soot from the ceiling.
I nodded at him as I continued sweeping off some ashes on the floor. We are used to Mei's explosions whenever she begins running tests with them, but sometimes they set off by themselves, exploding her room. I can't remember the number of times we had to clean up her messes, but she is striving for her dream, so we couldn't really get mad at her and did our best to support her.
Twenty minutes later. She came bursting through the door as she then rushed to her room.
MH: "Hey Mei, what's going on?" I asked as I was curious about her rushing to sort out her stuff.
Mei: "There's this boy I met and he wants to meet up again on Friday to help each other with our 'babies.' " She says as she starts throwing things into a box and others aside, checking the condition of her 'babies' to see what's appropriate to bring for her standards.
MH: "And what makes you so sure that he is trustworthy?" I asked as I leaned against the door frame while crossing my arms.
Mei: "I've seen his list of materials, which shows that he knows what he is doing, and he says he is willing to help my 'babies'. " She says.
MH: 'Ah, that's it. Once her babies are involved, she throws away all sense of reasoning out the door. He probably doesn't even know anything and was probably on an errand run for someone else. He's probably going to use her." I thought to myself as I had gone through this before.
I had seen kids take advantage of my daughter and once they got what they wanted, they'd just leave her. She never shows her sadness but I can tell that she is hurt by it by how much more proactive she is in making her babies, distracting herself. I sigh to myself as my baby is too blind to tell a person's character if it involves them complimenting her babies.
MH: "Sweetie, I know you want to meet another person like you, but it's not common to meet other people with your creativity." I say to her, hoping it would bring her to reality just a tiny bit.
Mei: "I know, but this time I know he is different, He really knows what he is talking about." as she was still concentrating on what to bring to meet this person.
I sigh as I then walk away. I saw my husband waiting for me in the hallway as he heard our conversation.
MH: "We'll see on Friday what happens. If we are right, we will pull her out of this." I say to him, which he nods before picking up the garbage next to him and heading outside to throw it out.
Out of the two of us, he is the most protective of our daughter. He rarely shows it but I can still remember the joy on his face when she was born. I then went ahead and put some of our cleaning supplies away as we then waited to see how this boy is.
A week had passed since Mei talked about this boy. I and my husband were not expecting good things from this since it's hard for kids to get used to how Mei can be ignorant of other people's feelings, whether it be how close she is or how dumbfounded she leaves them. Mei came through the door with a lot of her babies in a big wooden box as we then got up from the couch to help her.
MH: "Hey sweetie, are you okay?" I asked while my husband takes the box and places it in her room.
Mei: "Yeah, everything went great. I got to test a lot of my babies on him." She says cheerfully, which made me grimace at the possible idea that the boy may have been sent to the hospital.
MH: "A-And how was he?" I asked nervously.
Mei: "Can't really tell. We just went ahead and tested my babies and I already knew the flaws with them. So I really couldn't assess him since we were just demonstrating them."
MH: "That's not what I'm asking." I asked, worried about the boy's condition, which made her confused about what I was trying to get at.
Mei: "Well he had some interesting information regarding a new energy source and the implementation of air propulsion into drones to make them more silent for recon. He also says that our partnership would be destructive but there is still an improvement." which I can hear my husband make a barely noticeable laugh behind me as we both know how explosive she can be with her babies.
MH: "I mean how is he physically?" as I just wanted to know the boy's current condition.
Mei: "Oh. Well he is fairly muscular for an 8-year-old, so I call him muscles since he didn't tell me his name, but while I was leaving, I heard him shout out that he just forgot to introduce himself." she says as I sigh since I need to be more direct about what I'm talking about.
MH: "I mean, is he okay?" I asked as I was tired of trying to find out the current condition of the boy.
Mei: "Yeah he is fine. Just a couple of bruises but nothing too serious." she says, which made me sigh in relief as I was glad to hear that the boy is safe.
What she had told me so far before had somewhat made it easier for me to slightly figure out his character. He shows some mental capacity to at least keep up with Mei and probably help her in the future, he shows tolerance with her if he was willing to meet up again, and he has some kind of reinforcement quirk if he was able to survive all the damage taken by the inventions.
To me, he sounded like a good assistant for Mei to have if she wants to discuss something or test something. But my suspicions aren't clear yet since he sounds too perfect for Mei to befriend, which made me think it made me one of my competitors trying to get my blueprints for designs that I had not shown others yet by being closer to my daughter. But for now, I'll allow it, but I'll make sure to monitor any strange things that Mei may bring up about the boy.
A/N:
Sorry for the late post. I had completely forgotten to post yesterday. Just to make the ending make sense, Mei's mother is a fashion designer who owns her own little company, but she has many contracts with other companies for how exquisite her designs can be without ruining the functionality of the hero suits. Which is how Mei is able to buy the parts she wants and how the parents can afford to repair the damages done by her. Anyways, thanks for reading, and I'll see you again.
