129. Mom will never go again

Nandini's POV

"Manik!!!"

I ran to him as he collapsed on his back. Redness soaked his black t-shirt and three visible bullet wounds pooled like little ponds with overflowing blood.

His father growled like a mad beast and jumped out of the car. Curses spilled from his mouth as he shifted into a werewolf, so big and tall that my eyes widened in fright, and ran after the speeding up van.

"Manik," His name resounded dreadful on my lips as I sat next to him.

Seeing his oozing blood, I began to hyperventilate. A raw and primitive grief overwhelmed me. My fingers shook as I held his face. It was cold... Like the face of a dead corpse would feel.

He spurted blood out of his mouth and a haywire occurred in my system. Even then there was a smirk on his face.

"You still care for me, Nandini." The corners of his mouth quivered before he passed out on a gasp.

I felt my heart plummeting in my stomach. I screamed as loudly as I could and within minutes the school's staff and security guards crowded around me. Although in a state of stupor, seeing their Alpha with bullet wounds on his chest close to his heart, they assisted me and we rushed him to the pack's hospital in an ambulance the school had for such emergency cases.

Raghav was about to leave to go home when we arrived at the hospital. Pallor overcame his visage when he saw who it was on the gurney as the ambulance door swung open. While the two male teachers that sat inside the ambulance with me pulled him out, I approached Raghav.

"H-he's been shot, Raghav. T-they shot him in front of me. He's... He's bleeding profusely. Do something!" I clung onto his arms and begged.

It took time for Raghav to regain his senses. He asked the ward boys to take Manik to the OT immediately as he mind-linked with some doctors to join him.

The ghosting out features of his face made oxygen snarl in my chest, "What's wrong, Raghav? You will bring him back, won't you?"

"I will give him my heart if that's what it takes to save him, Nandini. But the other surgeons are already in other operation rooms. I need an assistant."

"Then call Vicky, Chris or Jenna." I crazily shook my head as my hands went around my forehead. "You have so many doctors working under you. Take any of them and save Manik."

"It would take too much time, Nandini. They're all away doing some work. I'll still try if I can find someone." He tried to connect with other surgeons and his fallen face that I saw when he returned to me after taking a look at Manik inside the OT made my blood run cold.

"What happened? Is he okay? Why don't you go inside and start with his surgery, Raghav?" I yelled in frustration.

Raghav's face hardened. Although he was the most sorted person I knew, at this moment his eyes scared me.

"You are also a doctor, Nandini. Come and join me inside." I blinked at his suggestion, feeling numb.

I haven't touched any surgical instruments for five years. There's nothing about my real profession that I recall.

"I don't... I can't."

"Look, either you join me, or he dies in my hands because I can't do it alone. I need an assistant."

Hearing him say about Manik dying caused my system to shake in fright. Although dreadful, I hesitantly agreed. I changed my clothes and put on the surgical gown. Having sanitized my hands, I walked into the operation theater upon Manik laying bare.
