————————A long sigh escaped your lips as you steadied your sniper rifle, glancing down your scope to aim at the metal human figure targets down on the other end of the shooting range. You needed to steady yourself better, gripping harder on the stock of the gun as you steadied yourself with a lean on your back foot. Your finger touched the cold trigger as you held your rifle steady, taking one last look before pressing the metal trigger in your grasp. Hearing the shot fire out as you watched it hit the target's left shoulder while the bullet casing fell to the side of you with some smoke in the air. Standing there you watched the target as if it was going to do something or change the area where you shot. Feeling your blood boil as you stared down the scope still as if you could really change how bad of a shot you just made. Feeling the failure from this far away as you gazed upon your missed shot. Not even hitting the heart which was at least still a killshot on the target.
"Fuck me" you muttered to yourself, your hands down at your waist as you continued to hold on to your gun. Mentally face palming as you shook your head while you stood there in silence. No one around you to watch your failure to try and better yourself at sniping. You wanted to improve yourself, better your skills and become a better soldier in battle that could do anything and everything. You wanted to better yourself and have the man that could nail a bullseye from any distance look at you in amazement as if you were an award winner of some sort. But who were you kidding, you couldn't even land a headshot from this far away let alone a good shot to the chest where the targets outline laid.
Your combat skills were okay, close range and melee weapons were your friend in combat. But using rifles and shooting at long distance was something you hated yet wanted to learn so badly. It seemed to be the only thing you couldn't really do at top proficiency and it annoyed you so much as the days want by. Not only did it annoy you on a competitive level, it also meant it was something Piers had over you that you could never beat. You two worked side by side ever since you were assigned to the agency. Having your pros and cons, different skill sets and strengths when fighting. You were better with hand to hand combat and he was better with shooting at far distances. Seeming that if the other tried to teach their skill it would always go in one ear and out the other no matter the amount of effort put in. Putting you together was like requesting for a super soldier with two heads. Yet it was the best outcome to have since you both were two peas in a pod at this point in time. Which surprised you that you were alone at his favorite place on the agency's land.
The truth was you just wanted to show him you could shoot like he could. He was trained and a professional, one of his main characteristics on the force were his sniping capabilities. You wanted him to notice you for not just a hot headed fighter that lived to get their hands dirty. You wanted to show you could focus on a task and achieve your goal. But even though with your efforts and several shots at the targets it seemed like you were getting absolutely no where on the gloomy day you decided to come out here. A groan escaped your lips as you fought the urge to jump over the fence to go stab the target over and over. Bringing your gun up one more time as you gazed down the scope. Steadying your breathing as you stood there. A shaky hand on the trigger as you lined up your shot to try and aim towards the head like you had wanted
"Come on...you've got this, just calm down" muttering to yourself as you planted your feet in to position once more. Breathing in and out before you held your breath, squeezing the trigger and watched as the shot landed a little bit closer to the center of the chest then the last shot you made. Showing little progress yet it wasn't good enough to you, this progress was minimal compared to what you should have at this time.
"God damn it" you exclaimed as you pulled your scope away from your eye, resisting the urge to chuck your gun and sit in defeat on the cold tile flooring. Shaking your head you gazed down at the gun in your grasp in defeat, getting in to your head once more like you normally would. Knowing you weren't good at this and telling yourself you never would be after just practicing for the past hour. Criticizing yourself so much on your hard work as if it never mattered in the first place. Training like this was just a test to you, already earning a spot for what you were good at. It wasn't as if this made keeping your job on the line. It was just a stupid thing you wanted to show off to people since you thought Piers was so cool with his aim. Yet you thought your skills in combat weren't good enough, that you needed to upgrade yourself instead of working on new killing blows and how fast you could fight in close hand to hand and shooting combat with pistols.
