--------------------

Work was something you cared a lot about in your life, definitely more so than others you know quite well. Now you weren't the type to kiss ass in order to get what you wanted no, you were just the type to always show up on time. Everyday you needed to come in to work you made sure you would show up and stay the full length you were supposed to be there until you had to leave. Never having an excuse to not show up, you knew you had a lot of hours under your belt in case of the emergency. In all honesty you could have called off work many times before, showing up with a runny nose and a slight fever in order to get some things done was an understatement. But since you knew you could handle coming in without feeling your best you knew you could do it again.

Well at least you thought you could, today was a day where you were wrong with that statement. It came out of nowhere this cold you must have picked up from someone, having a few ideas in mind as to who it was. You would be lying if you said you never got sick, everyone got sick every once in a while. But this sickness you picked up was probably one of the worst you have had in a long time. Waking up feeling absolutely horrible no matter what you did to try and cheer yourself up before work. Your head ached as soon as you opened your eyes as you laid in bed. Only seeming to escalate once you started to sit up in order to get rid of this groggy feeling you had. Yet as you opened your eyes once more the room spin as you glanced around for your phone. Never seeming to get rid of this glossy cover over your vision no matter how many times you rub your eyes to rid it from you. With a frustrated sigh your feet moved under the blanket you wore, moving it off your body slowly since you didn't have the motivation to use your hands. You needed to get ready was all you told yourself as your bare skin soon touched the atmosphere of your cold room. A shiver crawled down your spine as you sat there in the seeming freezing temperature your room got over night.

"This is bullshit....I'm not sick, I can't be there's no way" You muttered shallowly as you tried to breathe more clearly after speaking in your quiet home. Soon finding your nose to be plugged or is in the middle of being plugged up as you tried to breathe in. A groan escaped your lips as your hand lifted up to touch your forehead, feeling how burning your skin was against your palm. You pulled your hand away, glancing at it for a second as if what you felt was wrong. Astonished that you could have felt this bad after feeling almost completely fine yesterday.

"How...how could I have caught something" You asked yourself as you held on to the blanket that laid against your bed, bringing it with you as you slid your legs over the side of the bed frame in order to stand up all the way. Standing there for a second you just stared off into space, trying to think yet everything came up as a blur to you for some odd reason. Your palm came to your forehead once more as you groaned in annoyance. Your sock covered feet shimmied against the floor boards as you struggled to take larger steps into your main living space. Finding your phone laying on the coffee table near the couch. Realizing you must have left it there and went to bed last night after feeling overly exhausted yesterday. Taking your usual spot on the couch you sighed, trying to clear your vision as you held your phone in your shaking hand.

"They'll understand right? I don't think I can come in today at this rate, it'll be fine. I can call off sick if I need to. I got most of my work done anyway" you muttered, scrolling through your contacts until you landed on the Chief's with a hesitant finger. A feeling of anxiety washed over you as your finger hovered over the button. One day off won't be so bad,

"Hello?"

"Hey Chief, I don't think I can make it into work today. I'm sick"

A sigh escaped Chris' lips as he rested his head against his palm, watching the clock in the office he shared with everyone on the S.T.A.R.S team. It took some time getting used to, having all the desks near each other with enough room to either have a filing cabinet or a small table to hold your things. He had his desk toward the middle with Jill beside him. Everything seemed normal today, the other members were in conversation after coming in from a patrol on the town. Or should he say grabbing some food from the local diner after patrolling as an award. Yet something was off to him throughout the whole day. He didn't get his normal greeting he got from his favorite cheery person that sat at the desk in front of him. Nor did he have someone to go on a coffee run with him. There was no upbeat laughter and banter or jokes that seemed so innocent yet held such a darker meaning once everyone let it sit for a while. There was no sound of a chair squeaking as it was pushed over to his desk in order to eavesdrop and gossip.
