--------------------

It had been a while since the mission was claimed to be a success in rescuing the president's daughter. No words could describe how exhausted you were as the mission finally came to an end and you could finally say goodbye to that awful place that would forever leave a mark on your memory for good. Overall the stress was something you hoped to not have to deal with for at least a while, with Luis being by your side and dying to Krauser as soon as you thought you were having a break through with the Spaniard. Coping with his death hurt for a while, especially since it was by the hand of that asshole that used to train Leon and you both. His death was satisfying to watch to say the least. But with Luis' research and work you were finally able to relieve the virus from all three of your bodies before you left that horrible place. Destroying Salazar and Saddler for good without hesitation which is what brought you to this point in time a few months after.

Ashley was safe, thriving even as she was brought home to her father and your boss. He seemed so delighted as he hugged her tight, thanking you and Leon both for saving her from that awful cult you destroyed from the inside out.  You couldn't help but smile as you watched the reunion, hearing her thank you both personally with a hug before your leaving to finally go get some rest that you definitely needed after spending so much time out there with a target on your head for that cult. The nightmare was over for now, you and Leon both had returned to the agency with his usual unshaken demeanor. Acting as if everything was fine, "all in a days work" as someone would say. But something lingered beneath the surface, a tension between the two of you that hadn't been there before or at least you tried not to let it be. But your mind just simply couldn't forget what you had watched during this mission and it wasn't even from the enemies almost killing you or the virus, it was that girl in red, Ada Wong.

You couldn't put your finger on it, but the knowledge of his history with Ada was a splinter in your mind during your time there as well as following you back home. She was beautiful and should never be underestimated yes, she was powerful and intelligent you were sure she could get her way with anything if she truly wanted. Which in return led you to speculate how Leon had met her in the first place almost going on 7 years ago now. It seemed like she always had her eye on you both, speaking in the mic mostly toward Leon, helping us in the end with Saddler in order to defeat him. Even though she was working against us, it seemed Leon could never say no to her. In the end Leon and you saved Ashley from the cult, but it felt like he'd left you behind in a way.

So in return you started to pull away once you were back. In a way the set up was perfect, after the mission against Las Plagas was over. To the agency you proved how valuable you were working under pressure in jobs like the one you managed to finish. Showing them you could handle extreme situations with things at stake against monsters you've never seen before. So when they offered you more extensive training in order to take on harder missions you didn't dare say no. You wanted to show them what you could really do, that you weren't leaning on Leon as a crutch since he had been through hell and back with the undead before. It was your time to put your life on the line and you didn't hesitate to do just that with your work.

Time had passed and it didn't take long until you volunteered for missions that took you far from HQ. Whether it be simple recon or physical missions in preventing samples of viruses from being sold. You buried yourself in work, taking on tasks that left you exhausted but distant enough to ignore the pangs of jealousy and insecurity gnawing at you from within. If you weren't there during that mission, you wouldn't have to watch Leon's lingering gaze or hear his cryptic comments about someone he could never seem to let go of.

You could never seem to shake your mind of that time you had with him, remembering his gaze on her when she cornered him. It always brought a wave of sickness wash over you even though you knew you could never be allowed to feel this way. You loved Leon and cared so much about him, but there was no title to what you had before. There was no relationship set in stone with him either so you had no right to act like this, like some jealous girlfriend that he never had. But your heart wouldn't stop aching at the thought that he could never return your feelings fully like you wanted all along. So you continued what you were doing, spending less and less time with him in order to calm your heart down enough for things to go back to normal, or you hoped it would anyway.
