The life of a mercenary wasn't the easy life you could say in your years in the business. Risking your life just to get paid to get by. Sure your reputation to people who knew you terrified them, your skill in combat was advanced in some areas as well which made you one of the top to get job offers. But with this life it got kind of tiring quick, it was the same ordeal. Get a job offer from the main guy you worked for, take the job and kill your target in the time window offered. Collect evidence of the death, report it back to the boss and collect your money that was your reward. Stuck on repeat over and over again, it didn't help that you started to notice your reward intake was decreasing as well. Probably because of your new extreme competition in the field.

Jake Muller was his name, a man you have been at war with since he started taking more jobs underneath your boss you both shared. He was tall, agile and had the most stubborn personality as well as a sarcastic mouth on him. But you couldn't help but like him even though you told yourself over and over again not to. That he would get in the way of your work and distract you, that you shouldn't be crushing on a guy you work against since the jobs are first come first serve regularly. Well you couldn't be at fault for him distracting you at this point since he seemed to always be around now. At first he was quiet, taking a few jobs here and there just like the rest of them. Yet as time went on he started to take more and more jobs, becoming better and better with his skill and a real problem for you in the long run.

Of course you didn't say anything, you weren't one for cocky banter to get him riled up. Having a few conversations with him before in between jobs was enough for you to not have any strings attached. Yet it was like fate laughed at you and purposely brought you closer in your time off. Not to mention the fact that you were both given the same job since there were two kills with the same bounty on their heads. Coincidence was all you could think when you stood there in front of the bosses desk. Jake standing right beside you with his towering figure as he stood with his arms crossed. Neither of you complained, just once stolen glance told all that you were both frustrated at the situation. Unsure as to why this was happening to both of you and the boss wasn't one to give an answer. Telling you to go grab your weapons and gear up since the time window was an hour from now when it would start and he expected that both targets would be dead. Leaving you both to stand there quietly before turning and leaving each other without a single word.

The ride was silent there as he had you ride on the back of his motorcycle since it would bring you both there quicker. Explaining to you that instead of you taking a car it would just be easier to get along with each other. You were glad he couldn't see your face as you held on to him tight. His turns were cut sharp as he accelerated around them, causing you to slightly fear for your life out of all the situations you have been in. You couldn't stop thinking about him as you would glance up at him from time to time. He seemed so serious and so stern, he just wanted to get the job done as did you. But why couldn't you stop thinking about him like this. He was your rival in your work, neck and neck with the amount of kills you have gotten. You should hate him was what you felt and tried to, yet you couldn't. Feeling childish for hating him even just a little since you didn't really know much about him. You have only talked to him a handful of times, there wasn't much you knew about each other. Just that you had a mutual respect for each other and why you were there in the first place.

"We're here, the bounties are inside on the third floor" You heard his voice suddenly say as he brought his heel down on the kick stand to his bike he hid around the corner. You hummed in delight as you took your helmet off and sat it down on the end of the bike where you had sat. Fixing your hair out of your face before you look at the building you would soon be entering.
