Once I entered the door my mother was running around the place searching for something. Once her eyes landed on me, she let out a sigh of relief.

"(y/n) please can you pick up your baby brother from daycare I have to go to a meeting tonight and won't be there"

"Do I get money if I do so?" I said laughing a bit as she gave me a glare. Not wanting to get hit with a shoe or a belt for the comment I rushed back outside heading down the street looking around. The daycare wasn't far near the elementary school as I walked in hearing kids laughter running through the hall. I followed the sound walking into the small gym room noticing the teacher and kids sitting around watching this old man probably in his fifties making magic tricks for the kid. He wore a top hat with clown makeup painted on his face. I didn't want to disturb the show as I leaned against the wall watching the man pull his top hat off and reveal a card in it. The kids clapped their hands waiting for his neck magic trick as his eyes wandered the crowd landing on me.

"You young lady, will you be my assistant?" The man spoke giggling a bit as everyone's eyes were watching me. I was frozen in the moment, unsure of what to do. A part of me was like stop being so anxious and do it another part was giving me warning signs for some reason.

"Umm okay" I said walking next to the man side standing a bit away the warning bells still going off I played it off as mostly stress though. He held his hand out waiting as I lifted my hand in his grip letting him pull me over to a contraption. The fake cut off a hand trick. I looked at the man lowering my hand to it as he turned his head back to the crowd.

"For my next trick I will chop this lady's hand off" he said, slamming the handle down. The kids gasp or scream when the fake hand drops out. I played along grabbing my arm looking down at it, my eyes filled with fear.

"Oh no he just chopped my hand!" I yelled at the kids who were running off to the teachers as my brother got up running over to me grabbing my leg. I laughed, showing my hand was just fine as I picked him up. "Don't worry kiddo my hand okay. Let's get home"

Some of the kids realized it was fake returning back to their seats. I was about to head out when I felt a rough grip on my shoulder. I didn't have to turn around or guess who it was when the man walked up in front of me.

"Thank you young lady, might I say that was a fantastic job" he said letting out a giggle leaning down to my height.

"Thanks um"

"My name Albert, (y/n)" he said standing back up. How the fuck does he know my name. I took a step back avoiding looking at him as he noticed the change in my expression. "It's a small town everyone knows everyone"

"Okay, I have to go" I said, walking around him picking up the pace. Even if he was trying to be nice, I didn't want to stick around any longer.

I got home, closing the door, locking it, setting my brother down in a highchair. I slide into the kitchen searching around for something to eat.

"Hmm what is there to eat?" I mumble standing on my toes, my eyes barely looking into the cabinet. There was a box of pop tarts with only one left. Jackpot. I grab the box, throw it in the trash, take the wrapping, pull it open, take a piece, break it off, and hand it over to my brother. "Don't tell mom"

My brother giggled picking the piece up and biting on it. I set down a few more broken pieces walking into the living room falling back on the cushion turning the tv on, switching through channels stopping at an old kid show I used to watch.

A few minutes into the show I heard a knock. I pushed myself up taking a peek out the window seeing it was Griffin. I thought he wanted to be alone non the less I got up opening the door looking down at him.

"Hi Griffin, what are you doing here?"

"I-I'm sorry about early this morning and yesterday I told you before I like being alone so sometimes, I will tell you I want to be alone or won't talk please don't take it personally" he said rubbing his arm a little looking ashamed. I smiled, nudging him a bit to get his attention back.

"Don't worry about it I won't hold it against you we're still friends" the look of relief filled his whole face up as he took a deep breath smiling at me.

"Thank you for understanding" he said, turning back around and walking off. I shut the door, locking it again looking over to my brother picking him up, sending him off to take a nap picking up one of his favorite story books sitting next to the crib looking over as his little hand gripping the bars shaking it a little bit wanting his bedtime story. I shook my head flipping through the pages reading out. In just a few seconds he was knocked out holding onto the mattress. I closed the book, setting it down on the dresser looking back at him blowing a kiss.

"Goodnight brother" I whispered, wrapping my fingers around the doorknob pulling it behind me. I got back to the couch looking over to the clock wondering when my parents would come home as I laid back staring at the tv letting a yawn slip out. Soon I couldn't stay up longer as I grabbed the throw blanket wrapping it around me turning to my side away from the tv closing my eyes.
