chapter one hundred and twenty-four

Today was the day. I would be going to trial court. I was searching through my closet picking up the black dress and putting it on making my way out my bedroom as my mother and father were pacing around the house for who knows what as I took a seat on the couch. My brother sat on the floor playing with his blocks as he looked up, beaming a smile at me reaching his hand up as I leaned forward scooping him up in my arms, setting him on my lap as he reached his hand touching my cheek, something he used to do when I was uneasy. My mother came over picking up my brother walking back leaving me by myself before Samson came running to the living room settling himself over my lap as he kept glancing up at me.

"I'm okay boy" I whispered enough for him to hear as I ran my hand over his back. My father came out taking my brother out of my mother's hands as he placed a kiss on her head before walking out the house. He agreed to drop my brother off to daycare while my mother was still getting ready as I stayed on the couch holding Samson close as I could feel my heartbeat racing while my body was shaking a bit.

"Are you ready?" my mother asked, walking out in the living room grabbing her coat and keys.

"Yeah" I mumbled, nudging Samson away, rubbing his head before following after my mother closing the door behind as we got in to her car.

The drive felt like hours before we stopped at a building as my mother turned her head to look back at me.

"Sweetie, I know this is scary but if you go in there, I promise you, you'll come out cheering" she said giving me a reassuring smile as I just nodded my head getting out the car as she drove off to find a parking spot. My heart started picking up the pace again as I walked up the stairs looking to the ground till I made my way inside as everything felt too quiet and slightly cold. I wandered down the hallways looking for any signs of where to go till I heard a familiar voice.

"(y/n)" Donna said walking up to me wrapping her arms around me as I wrapped my arms around her pulling her close letting out a sigh of relief to see her.

"Hey Donna, I'm so glad you're here" I said, pulling away from the hug as she looked up at me.

"I wasn't going to let my best friend deal with this on her own and I also came to speak about Michael and the things he said to me, the boys also came to support and to speak about the things he said to them when you weren't around" she said walking off motion me to come with her as I followed next to her side till, we stop at the double doors where a police officer was station as he turned his head giving a slight smile that made me a bit more anxious as me and Donna walked in. there were already a few people seated for jury service duty as their eyes quickly landed on us I avoiding my gaze from them looking over to the other side seeing Max talking to some women as he looked up waving me over I looked back to Donna as I noticed she wasn't there anymore so I made my way over to Max and the unknown women.

"Good morning (y/n), how are you feeling today?" Max asked as I just shrug my shoulder looking between him and the women.  "(y/n) this is heather she going to be your lawyer"

"Hello heather" I said as Heater looked down at me giving me a small smile.

"Hello (y/n)" she spoke in a soft voice before turning back to Max talking to him about whatever as I walked out the court room to distract myself. 

"(y/n)!" A voice shouted as I turned my head seeing Griffin as he came walking up to me. quickly I ran over to him pulling him close into a hug as he let out a slight chuckle wrapping his arms around me. 

"I'm so happy your here right now" I whisper under my breath still holding him tightly as he lifted my face kissing my cheek resting his hand on my cheek as we stayed in each other's arm before another voice caught our attention as Billy came up kissing my forehead pulling me close to his side. the others soon came as Heather came out interrupting our time together to tell us the trail was starting as the boys each gave me another kiss before walking in as I followed Heather taking a seat right up in the front as she dug through her bag pulling out a file as I glanced over at it before noticing the room went silent as I looked up seeing Michael enter the room. his once wavy brown locks of hair now were now gone replaced with a buzz cut, cuts were on his arms as there was a bruised left on his face. his hand had also been cuffed as two officers were tugging him along as his lawyer came up taking a seat next to him. soon the judge came in as he took a seat. the judge started saying some stuff, but my mind went fuzz as I felt eyes glued onto me knowing dam well who it was as I tried to keep my eyes focused on the ground. 

"Judge I would like to bring up one of the witnesses" Michael lawyer spoke.

"You may procced" the judge said as his lawyer called on Donna. I could see she was shaking a bit as she walked over taking a seat next to the judge as all eyes were on her. he kept throwing questions at her about Michael and his behavior things she noticed as she went down the list answer them. Heather stood up to ask her a few questions before another witness was called up.

"Now Vance can you tell me what Michael did when miss (l/n) wasn't around" 

"That fucker would threaten us, always warning us to stay away from (y/n)" Vance said as he leaned back in the chair staring down at Michael as Michael glared back. it went on like that tell the judge called for recess as I pushed myself out my seat walking right out the court room to the restroom as I grab on the edge of the sink. my heart was harming in my ears as my stomach kept flipping and turning. the door open as I looked out the corner of my eye seeing Donna who seemed too also be stressed as she looked at me.

"(y/n) I'm going to be honest with you, you look like a complete mess" she said trying to put it lightly.

"I blame the anxiety" I said covering my mouth as I burp feeling something prick the back of my throat "you should have seen Michael"

"The way he stared at you. it was creepy"

"I just want this to be over so I can go home and cuddle the boys" I said as Donna came over to me resting one hand on my back.

"After this you're the only one left to speak out before the jury decided" she said as I nodded my head turning the faucet on splashing a bit of cold water in my face taking a deep breath before walking back out as the boys were waiting around as they pulled me close to them. I buried my head in Robin chest feeling tears threating to spill in that moment, but I kept them in as we started talking trying to take our minds to anything positive till, we had to walk back in the court as I took a seat next to the judge. As the lawyer asked me question of what had happen, I had to bring my mind back to the past of how it all started to become clear to me that he wasn't great how he always change himself like a mask around me then I had to remember that night at the dance up to staying back in that nightmare place while going over what he did to keep me in that house the times I tried to escape just to be drag back in. 

"The last time I tried to escape was in the woods where he had set up trapes as I ended up falling down the hill spraining my ankle, I couldn't be able to get far so I stayed with Michael hoping for that I would get a chance to escape. if I tried to make another attempt, he would threaten me I feared for my life, so I acted just the way he wanted me to till the boys came to recuse me from that hell" I said as the lawyers ask me no further questions as I went back to my seat while the jury were whispering to one another as I stayed in my seat waiting anxiously for their answer. he was found guilty. Michael was charge for first degree murder because of the delivery person and would be sentence to adult prison for about 45 years.

 I had to restrain myself from jumping out my seat as the judge dismissed everyone as Michael got up following the two police officer looking back one more time as our eyes meet as he mouths out, I'm sorry before walking out. I got up out my seat walking out as I was quickly engulfed into a hug from the boys as I was showered in love and affection before Donna made her way over wanting a hug from me. when we got outside, we were all cheering that Michael would be sent away as my mother shouted for me to get in the car as I waved Donna goodbye before getting in the car while the boys were going to change before coming to visit as my mother drove me home dropping me off so she could pick up my brother as I ran inside the house to my room changing to my normal set of clothes as I walked back out to the living room hugging Samson telling him about the good news. a knock came from the door as I got up greeted by my favorite people in the world as I let the boys inside closing the door after as we all took a seat on the couch turning the tv on to some show as I laid my head back slightly resting it on Bruce shoulder as I closed my eyes falling asleep.
