chapter forty-two

I didn't decide to tell Vance about my nightmare as we both were sitting by the window staring at the outside world. He was twitching in his seat, stirring a little, tapping his foot on the ground. He hated sitting around doing nothing while I was just sitting back relaxed. Secretly though I was eating myself up inside hoping something exciting would happen.

"Hey (y/n) I'm going back to the room yell if you need something" Vance said, jumping off the chair and walking away. I stayed behind still staring out the window tapping a finger against my chin.

"Oh, found you (y/n)" a voice said as I turned my head noticing Finn making his way over to me taking a seat where Vance was once at as he gave me a genuine warm smile. I wonder if he heard what had almost happened to Robin.

"Hi Finn" I said, turning my attention to him giving a warm smile "how are you holding up?"

"I'm doing okay just hanging out with the guys and Donna" he said blushing at her name growing a bit nervous looking at the ground. I almost had forgotten about Donna after we hadn't talked much. I wonder why she hasn't visited me.

"I see you still have a crush on her" I said laughing a little even though it didn't sound right in a way.

"N-no I don't"

"Finn you're stuttering and when you stutter you lie so yes you do" I said proving a point leaning back in the chair picking up the little cup of water taking a few sips. I could see him mumble under his breath, probably cursing me out for knowing I was catching on to his little cue for nervousness.

"How have you and Vance been holding up?" Finn asked, throwing his bag to the ground next to the chair.

"Fine mostly Vance can be a prick here and there, but I manage to not fight with him...for now at the moment" I said feeling a smile tug at the corner of my lip while Finn was holding back some laughter.

 "I don't know how you two even get along" he said looking around, making sure Vance wouldn't just pop out of nowhere. I Gave a shrug acting like I didn't understand either.

 "How's Robin?"

"Oh" I mumble looking to the ground for a minute thinking carefully on my next choice of words as Finn was leaning forward in his chair closer to me waiting for the news. "He almost left but the nurses and doctors brought him back, so he's been sleeping mostly"

The wave of sadness crashed into Finn's face as I started regretting telling him what happened. I got up walking over to a table that had some napkins on it as I took the stack full, dropping it down next in front of Finn. he shook his head using the sleeve of his shirt wiping away any tears that were already starting to spill.

"How are Bruce, Billy and Griffin?" I ask after a few minutes when Finn was calming down a bit knowing Robin was still here.

"Bruce practicing for an upcoming game, Bill trying to get back to deliver newspaper, Griffin and I are working on to building a new rocket I was going to show you today, but I forgot"

"That's okay I could come over to your house to see it"

"Wait really?"

"Yep" I said, lifting my shirt a little showing the stitch up wound that was still healing but wasn't bad the first time he came over to see me, mostly Robin though before pushing my shirt back down covering it again.

"(y/n)"

 "Yes Finn"

"Do you think Robin will be okay?" he asked suddenly looking at me for any change in my expression. I just gave him a reassuring smile, taking one of his hands in mine.

"I'm sure Robin will be okay, he's the toughest out of all of us and don't tell Vance I said that promise?"

"Promise" he said, laughing a little. We still had a few minutes to kill before Finn would want to rush back home to get his homework done so we decided to have a meal from the cafeteria while Finn was trying to tell me what's been going on in school so I could catch up, but he lost me quickly when he started talking about math. So, I started zoning out to drown him out using my fork to pick at the meal. Once we were finished with the meal Finn was rushing off back home while I took both the trays throwing away any leftovers setting them away. 

I went back to our shared room noticing the lights were shut with Vance lying on the bed getting some rest and Robin of course lying on his bed stirring a little in his sleep. I took a slip of paper writing a note for Vance so he wouldn't wake up wondering where I went if he even noticed I was gone.  

"Bye Vance" I whisper setting the slip of paper on his bedside table turning back around walking out the door seeing my mother down the hallway with my brother in her arms. I waved over at her rushing over opening my arms out pulling her and my brother into a hug. 

"Oh, sweetie be careful your stitches"

"Mom the stitching is fine" I said picking my brother out of her arms holding him close to my side as he burst into a little ball of excitement seeing my face "I missed you too baby brother"

my mother shook her head handing me some clothes to wear as I turned back to the room setting my brother down laying a finger over my lip pointing to the two sleeping boys as I went into the bathroom changing out my hospital outfit to a more comfortable one. it already felt like I was back home lying-in bed drawing my heart out. I took my brother out walking downstairs to my mom who was signing a paper for the medical bill handing it back to the worker looking over to me as we walked out the front door jumping into the car heading back home.
