I was working behind the register helping out one customer after the other when Donna came walking in with her face painted in red, blue and white streaks with a few stars over her left eye.
"Wow Donna what happened to you?" I asked, laughing a little bit as she came right up to me beaming a smile.
"My cousins came over and they wanted to paint my face for the fourth of July"
"That's not till tomorrow though"
"They know but they wanted to test their face paint on me" she said laughing a bit "are you doing anything for the fourth of July?"
"Well so far no, I'm hoping to spend time with the boys to see the fireworks, but they might be busy"
"You know you can always stop at my house if you like my mother loves you like another daughter" she said walking off picking up a bag of chips that seemed to now be flying off the shelfs.
"Sure" I said, setting my sketchbook down, ringing up the bag of chips as she handed me the money as I gave her a few coins back.
"Bye (y/n)"
"Bye Donna" I said as the door shut. Now I was left alone in the store as I tapped my finger against the counter turning back to go in my sketchbook when the door rang as I looked up to see none other than Vance as I quickly put my sketchbook down.
"Hello babe" I said reaching over the counter as he came over kissing my lips.
"Hello doll" he said, brushing back a strand of hair away from my face as he gave me another kiss on the lips till, he pulled away walking off to the pinball machine as I shook my head a bit grabbing my sketchbook again.
"Hey babe!" I shouted even though he was only a few feet away from me, but it felt appropriate in my head.
"Yes doll?" Vance said looking out the corner of his eye for a sec before all eyes were focused back on the game.
"Are you doing anything for the fourth of July?" I asked slightly hoping in my mind that he wouldn't have anything.
"Oh yeah I'm going to hang out with my friends" he said.
"Okay" I said looking down at my sketchbook, putting in a few details in the eye I had drawn, drowning out everything around me till I felt arms wrapped around me. I spun around quickly ready to punch the person out of surprise when I stopped myself mid second noticing it was Billy as a wave of guilt washed over. "Oh, Billy I'm so sorry I didn't notice that was you"
"Next time I will go for a shoulder tap" he said laughing a little bit out of fear pulling his arms back down at his side. "I just wanted to come and say hi and how are you doing?"
"Well, hi babe, I'm okay but bored and now slightly guilty, how are you doing" I asked looking up at him as he gave me a warm smile kissing my cheek.
"Same but instead of guilt, change it to fear" he said with a slight chuckle.
"yeah" I said smiling a bit "wait babe since your here I wanted to ask you a question"
"what's the question?"
"Are you doing anything for the fourth of July? I thought maybe we could hang out and go see the fireworks"
"Oh, sorry babe I'll be busy with my family" he said kissing my cheek in apology
"that's fine" I said with a smile. he gave me another kiss on the cheek before returning back to do some more newspaper delivery as the store started getting pack with people as I put my sketchbook away ready to start work.
by the time it was getting to closing time I was exhausted from scanning people's items to helping customers here and there. I fell back against the chair taking a deep breath as I looked around the store finding myself alone waiting for my coworker to show up to take the nightshift as I sat in the back with my sketchbook for peace and quiet while I was drawing my favorite animal when I heard a knock on the door as I looked over to the door before getting up to my feet walking over opening it find Jason.
"You know Jason you could walk in" I said walking back over to the chair picking up my sketchbook and pencil putting it under my coat.
"I didn't want to scare you by just barging in" he said throwing his coat over the desk.
"Hm okay, hey Jason do you know if were working tomorrow or not?"
"Were not working"
"Okay thanks" I said rushing out they're quickly wishing him a good luck before walking out the door setting my things down in the basket before jumping over my bike pulling the coat, I had closer to me. I started peddling quickly to my house just wanting to get some food and some sleep. when I got to my house, I quickly jumped off my bike putting it back in the garage taking out my sketchbook and pencil before walking inside seeing my brother sitting in the living room with a cartoon show on while mother was in the kitchen reading a cookbook.
"Hi sweetie how was work?" my mother asked while flipping through a couple pages on the search for something.
"Fine" I said walking into the kitchen grabbing a snack bar as my meal for tonight as I ripped through the wrapper taking a few bites as I walked off to my room grabbing my pjs pulling them over as I threw the wrapper away before laying down in bed with a book in my hands as I read dozing off a bit before falling asleep with the book still in my hand.
the boys Pov
the boys stood in the firework store looking around for sparklers and snappers. Billy and Vance both felt bad for lying to (y/n) but all of them wanted to keep this a surprise for tomorrow. Finn wasn't so excited though about the whole idea of fourth of July after since the incident of a bad firework, but he still wanted to join in. the store would be closing soon as the boys found what they needed quickly paying for the boxes of sparklers and snappers before walking out the store as Vance took the boxes to store them in one of his many hiding spots around his house as the other boys walked off home to get some rest for the big day tomorrow.
