chapter one hundred and twenty-nine

"I got the job!" I quickly shouted from the kitchen. My mother came running out from my brother's room with my giggling baby brother in her arms as she beamed a wide smile at me.

"Did you really?" she asked with a questionable gaze in her eyes as I quickly nodded my head yes. She came over to me pulling me into her arms as we jumped around in a bit of excitement as I heard a chuckle behind us as my mother pulled away from the hug turning back facing my dad as he walked over placing a kiss on my forehead.

"I'm proud of you kiddo" he said, rubbing my head a bit before turning to my mother pulling her close, giving her a kiss as I turned my head walking off to my room to quickly get ready as my job started today which I was thankful for but a bit nervous wondering what the first day could bring me as I pulled on a pair of good jeans along with a nice shirt as I walked back out to the kitchen giving my baby brother a kiss on the forehead.

"Bye mother I don't want to be late on my first day" I said, picking up my shoes and tugging them on.

"Sure, sweetie I hope everything goes great" she said with a reassuring smile.

"Me too" I mumbled picking up my keys walking out to the garage pulling out my bike knowing it would be faster than walking as I set my bike down walking back into the garage picking up my bike lock setting it down in the basket before I hop over settling myself on the seat resting my feet on the pedals finding my balance for a moment before taking off feeling the wind push through my hair as I grip the handle bar riding faster. 

I came to a stop once I got to the store as I put my bike away on the rack pulling out my bike lock, wrapping it around the wheel to the rack letting it click in place before walking into the store as the women I met yesterday greeted me as she started explain the rules as we walked into the storage room as she pointed back at the calendar telling me these would be the days I would be working on as I nodded my head then she went back to telling me a few more rules before she handed me a mop telling me there a spill near the sodas as I grip the mop walking out the storage room over to the back over the store as she walked after me setting down a bucket with water along with a wet floor signs as I put the mop in the bucket letting it soak for a minute before pulling it back setting it in the spilled soda as I scrub my way through it a few times. Once the spot was completely gone, I took the sign setting it up as I picked up the bucket and mop walking off to the storage room putting them away as I came out seeing the women working the register as she waved her hand motioning me to come over. She started teaching me on how to use the register and which buttons to push.

"Sometimes the drawer gets stuck so smack your hand against the side of the machine if it happens, and if you need help me and Jason numbers are in the storage room board, I'm going to take a smoke break" she said walking off to the back as I stood next to the register waiting around for a customer when I heard the door ring as I turned my head noticing the familiar bad boy I come to love.

"Hi there, strange" I said with a slight giggle as Vance quickly turned his head looking at me before smirking and walking up to me.

"Hello Doll, what are you doing behind the register?" he said, reaching his hand out wrapping it around my neck pulling me into a kiss.

"I work here now"

"Oh, you miss me that much" he said with a chuckle as I smack my hand playful against his chest sticking my tongue out at him.

"No, I need the money"

"Whatever you say Doll" he said with a smirk walking off to the pinball machine pulling a few quarters out of his pocket. I sat behind the register looking around wondering what I could do to keep myself busy in that moment when I heard the door ring again as a few kids came walking in heading right over to the snacks picking up a few of the chocolate bars and some bubble gum as they walked over setting it down on the counter, I took them scanning each item pushing a few buttons the machine.

"Okay your total going to be five dollars" I said putting the candies in a bag as one of the kids pulled out a five-dollar bill setting it down on the counter. 

"Thank you" the kid said taking the bag walking out with the rest of his friends as I took the five-dollar putting it in the register as I slightly cheered on the inside for my first customer as I walked off to the back over to where the speakers were changing the music that was playing to something I like more as the sweets started playing on the speaker as fox on the run started playing. I made my way back out as I noticed more customers walking in as I sat back down behind the register greeting customers here and there while ringing up prices and taking the money. 

"Hey Doll" Vance said coming up to me as I finished ringing up another customer as I turned my head to Vance noticing he had a wicked grin.

"Yes babe?" I asked handing the customer a bag as she gave me a smile before walking away as I gave my full attention to Vance.

"Could you maybe give me a few quarters?"

"Nope" I said with a smirk as Vance let out a slight groan and kept asking me over and over as I told him no until I dug in my own pocket giving him a few quarters I had as he given me a kiss on the lips wrapping his arm around my waist before pulling back thanking me running off back to the machine as I shook my head going back to work.
