The store wasn't packed like last time with only a few people hanging around just picking up snacks or walking by the store. As I step into the store I was welcome in with a chilly breeze from the fan up above probably a reason why the store wasn't packed much I didn't have enough money to buy some snacks or a drink so I didn't know what to do for a few minutes until my eyes landed on the pinball machine untouched calling out to me. Thankful I had one quarter from my pocket that I forgot about just enough to play one game. I pushed the quarter watching the machine spring to life. The ball clicked as it dropped down. I smiled putting my hand over the buttons pushing it over and over keeping the ball going hitting a point then another after another. I hit the ball one last time watching it hit the middle one sending it dropping straight down then I felt the feeling like someone was watching me as I turned my head to see him. Everyone was also watching, waiting to see if Vance would yell at me for playing his game but he just stared at me walking closer passing by me to the machine to play his own game. Another boy nearby I believe to be his friend gave me a passing glance walking to Vance whispering something as they looked up to the score.
"Dude she was going to beat your high score" his friend said pointing up as he rolled his eyes looking at him.
"I can see that dumbshit" he said, digging a quarter out his pocket pushing it to the machine pushing the buttons. I still had time to kill before my parents could return home to unlock the door so I just stalked around the store picking up a comic to read hoping the lady working would call me out for it.
"Hi (y/n)" Donna said jumping in the story walking next to my side "what are you doing here?"
"Just hanging around, what about you?"
"Picking up snacks for my brothers and me I was hoping to run into you Finney wanted to talk about working on the project over the weekend at my place or yours"
"Can't we work on it at his place?"
"I tried to ask but he said that his father doesn't like people over"
"Okay we can do it at my place my parents are always out and my brother at daycare most of the time"
"Great, I'll talk to you tomorrow at school" she said walking to the back picking up a few snacks. I went back to my comic still reading as two boys strolled in the store one shoving the other laughing loudly. I put the comic away walking off in the back. The boys were still shoving each other around until the boy with long brown hair shoved the one with curly hair making him bump into me.
"Sorry" he quickly said, moving away from me. I moved away from the group heading out the store hoping my parents were back. Once I reached the house, I opened the door and walked in. My brother was in his highchair eating snacks while my parents were nowhere in sight till my mother step out my room with a basket full of clothes.
"Oh hi sweetie sorry we locked you out" she said holding the basket to her hip while giving me a kiss on the cheek as she went into the laundry room.
"It's fine" I said, walking into my room digging my hand in my pocket searching around for the piece of paper Griffin number just to realize it wasn't there panic settled in me as I turned around hoping it just dropped out when I walked in. looking up and down around the place nothing came up. It must be at the grab and go I thought.
"Mom, I'll be back! "I raced out the house rushing off back to the grab and go. A few kids gave me a glance once I busted through the front door like a fool looking around the store. Where could it even be!
"Looking for this?" Vance asked, holding the little slip of paper between his fingers, a smirk curled at the corner of his lip leaning down to me.
"Yes, can I have that back?" I asked taking a step away from him. He looked me up and down handing the slip of paper back whistle to himself returning back to the machine. Waste no time when I return back home.
"Mom I'm going to use the phone"
"Okay sweetie but not too long I'm waiting for a call "I nodded my head walking in the kitchen spinning the dial to each number tapping the phone a little while listening. Ring. ring. Click.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is Griffin around?"
"Oh yes he is" his mother said pulling away from the phone "honey your friend calling!"
"I'm coming!" Griffin yelled from somewhere before the phone was switched over "hi (y/n) I'm happy you called!"
"Of course, I would, how are you?"
"Great I just got this new book, but I was thinking over the week we could hang out for a bit"
"I like too I'll see you then"
"Bye (y/n)"
"Bye griffin" I said, putting the phone back up with a click. I knew I still had the project to do I just wasn't sure when I would work on it and I'm sure there will still be time to work on it one day couldn't hurt spending time with my first friend since I got here hopefully Donna would be able to understand and maybe even Finney. the phone suddenly jumps to life screaming its head off making me jolt right back into the corner of the counter hitting my side that I dug my teeth into my lip silence the rippling pain. I drag myself into my room falling on the bed tugging most of my clothes off putting a set of comfortable Pj laying on my side curled up a bit.
