chapter forty-three

I was walking down the street heading over to Finn house like I promised as I kept checking my surroundings watching out for any black van. I know it was a silly thought. I couldn't shake away the feeling though that if I was caught off guard something bad might happen. It was worse that the nightmares wouldn't stop either any time I would catch a little of rest he was always waiting taunting me ready to strike. The dreams would always end with me trying to wake myself up or the grabber would catch up seeking his revenge.

I stepped up to the front porch of Finn place as I lifted my hand knocking three times taking a step back just waiting just a minute as Gwen came out opening the door smiling from ear to ear before jumping into my arms giving me a big hug.

"Hi Gwen, is Finn around?"

"Hi (y/n) he went with Donna to the grab and go for some snacks. They'll be back soon, want to come inside?" she asked with excitement. I nodded my head following behind her in the house. I quickly noticed there weren't a lot of bottles lying around like last time but there still was one bottle of vodka set on the kitchen counter halfway empty.

"Why did they go out for snacks?" I asked taking a seat on the couch as Gwen was walking to the kitchen grabbing a glass of water.

"I'm not sure" she said, filling up her glass.

"Okay" I said with a calm tone but inside I was dying to know what the answer was, wondering if Donna and Finn were becoming close.

"Why do you ask?" Gwen asked, taking a seat next to me holding back a smile.

"Just curious Finn has been acting differently since we escaped from you know who. He's been acting more confident it's a good thing, so I think I'm just missing his shy sweet side"

"Or you're jealous" Gwen suddenly blurted, raising an eyebrow to me.

"Of Finn and Donna? No, I know they like each other for a long time so I think they might date soon" I said but it felt like I was just poisoning myself with each word that slipped out. Shit maybe she was right, but I never had a crush on Finn before just only saw him as a friend so why was I acting like this now?

"You, okay?"

"Yeah, I'm okay" I said not wanting to talk about the Donna and Finn situation thinking about another way to change the conversation. Soon though the conversation went on about my stay at the hospital with the boys as I told her the story of Vance stealing the ice cream and what had almost happened to Robin, I just didn't share though about my panic attack and the hug with Vance or how he was treating me closer than before. I didn't need the school to find out after the last rumor with the pocketknife. The front door opened as Donna stepped in the house with Finn trailing behind her. Her deep dark browns landed on me as her once bright face turned a bit sourer.

"Hi Donna" I said, trying to be nice. She gave me a sort of eye glance without saying a word. Finn noticed me after a minute staring at Donna as he walked over giving me an awkward side hug.

"Hi (y/n) what are you doing here?"

"I was hoping to see the rocket you and Griffin made I promise you I would come to see it" I said, taking a seat away from him so Donna could stop glaring at me as Gwen noticed the tension between us and stepped out next to my side. Finn took off to his room to search around for the rocket leaving me, Gwen and Donna in the living room.

"Donna, is something going on?" I question lowering my voice a little so Finn wouldn't be able to hear us.

"No" she said simply turning her head to the hallway waiting for Finn to pop back out at any moment.

"Then why are you glaring at me?" I asked, crossing my arms a little.

"I wasn't" she lied, refusing to meet my gaze.

"Bitch" I mumble under my breath. Gwen started laughing a bit Grabbing Donna's attention as she started glaring at me once again. Finn came back out holding a large rocket.

"This is one of the new models. It only took me and Griffin a few days to build it and paint it" he said being gentle, moving the rocket around showing me all sides of it.

"Wow that looks amazing" I said looking at the rocket up and down moving a bit closer to check out the details as Donna noticed about to take a step closer to Finn just as Gwen moved around to his other side. I shook my head taking a step away "I wish I could stay around but my mother wants me back home"

"Oh" Finn said, looking at the ground.

"Don't worry I'll be at school soon I'll make sure to bug you in science" I said with a wink walking off giving Gwen a glance pointing outside as she nodded her head following me closing the door behind. "Am I going crazy, or did you notice Donna is also being a bitch?"

"I noticed it too"

"I don't understand, me and her were the closest friend before the Grabber. She didn't even once visit me when I was at the hospital"

"Finn tried to ask her yesterday if he would like to come to see you, but she made up an excuse and quickly left"

"Well, I'm going to try and talk to her when she isn't around Finn because I did nothing to her, I'll see you on Monday" I said opening my arms out hugging Gwen again.

"Good luck" she said, turning around and walking back inside her house. Yeah, I was going to need it. I turned back, heading back home taking a long way to enjoy the breeze that was smoothing down my nerves before stepping in my house slamming the door shut behind me. Monday is going to be an interesting day.
