The next day when I got to school everyone was all crowded in the hallways talking to one another and mentioning Michael over and over again. I grew curious making my way around the hall searching for any sign of Michael noticing quickly he was nowhere in sight. I let out a groan running off to search for Gwen knowing she might have a feeling as I spotted her by the lockers grabbing her book as I came over tapping her on the shoulder.
"Hey Gwen, I got a question"
"Yeah?"
"Do you know what happened to Michael?"
"Him and Moose got suspended for a few days because of the fight"
My mind screamed with joy that Moose wouldn't be around for a while. I was also glad Michael wouldn't be around so I could just get time to myself and figure things out. I still felt a slight pull towards him but then my feelings for the boy just kept growing. Ugh. I thanked Gwen and left to stop by the bathrooms throwing my bag to the ground pacing around a bit. I wanted to know why Michael was fighting with Moose because he must have done something awful to drive Michael over the edge. I also had nothing better to do at school. The school bell rang as I sat back in the bathroom waiting around for over maybe ten minutes till, I picked my bag back up, poking my head out listening for the jingles of key, high heel clicking or whistling as I stepped out sneaking my way around the back of the school. Snow was starting to fall again as I pulled my jacket closer, the only thing that would keep me warm. I took a deep breath before pushing the door open stepping out in the cold as every hair on my body stood up the chilly air wrapping around my arms. Now or never. I took off running through the snow as it stuck to my clothes and drench through my hair melting bits of it.
As I kept walking around taking shortcuts through the roads as no cars were passing by and there was less snow so my feet wouldn't plunge into mountains of snow that seemed to never stop growing. Then up ahead I noticed a man standing outside shoveling snow as I got closer seeing it was the same man, I always witnessed down the street, someone I could never stay away from, an endless reminder. Go talk to him my mind spoke as I felt a sort of empathy. I started walking up to him gripping my bag in one hand while I let the other dig deeper into my pocket, my heart pounding louder in my ear like a siren as I got closer.
"Um sir" I spoke, grabbing his attention quickly as I noticed his pupils bug out with a red tint.
"Oh, it's you" he said more out of surprise than annoyance and bitterness.
"Do you need help?" I asked as he quickly looked down at the shovel handing it over me as he ran off to get another for himself. I'll take it as a yes. I started digging through the snow pushing it to the other side. He soon came back with his other shovel as we both began working together moving the snow in silence before I spoke up. "So umm how did you find us?"
I had gotten curious a few times on that escape, how he ended up finding us before his brother stabbed him and sense, he did a better job on our case. I wanted to know how he cracked it.
"Oh, I was living with my brother while I was trying to find all of you. I had this map with a photo of each of you were you got taken and noticed it all connect I tried to talk to some detectives, but they were no help" that was for sure " my brother then started freaking out and left that's when I noticed on my board the map leads up to his house"
I knew the rest as I pushed the shovel into the pile of snow turning to him.
"Well thank you for trying to help, maybe the police will let you become a detective then you can run the other two out their business" I said with a slight laugh.
"Thanks. wait shouldn't you be in school?" he questioned tilting his head. shit. I looked up at him then to the side then back to him.
"Well bye" I said rushing off. I didn't have time to make up an excuse right now at the moment and I still needed to visit Michael as I raced up to his porch shaking a little by the freeze air as I knocked on the door taking a step back shaking in my shoes till his mother opened the door.
"What are you doing here?" she questioned
"I'm here to see Michael, school was cancelled so I was hoping to see him" I said shaking a bit as she steps out the way letting me inside as I mumbled out a thanks stepping inside noticing an old woman sitting on the couch staring at the ground mumbling under her breath her brittle bones gripping the fabric of her dress as her dull eyes looked up at me giving me a slight smile. this must have been Michael Grandma. I gave a small smile back slightly being nervous as I took a step back over to Michael mother as she smiled.
"don't worry about her" she said trying to reassure me as I nodded my head looking around the living room once a plain sight turned brighter with pictures on the wall a vase on the side table filled with roses. I threw my bag down to the floor taking my jackets and boots off as I started to explore around the living room catching sight of one photo with his grandma, mother, father, older sister, Michael and his two German Sheperd.
"Michael upstairs just watch out for the dogs" his mother said as she took a seat next to her mother-in-law. I nodded my head making my way upstairs till I reach to his door a silver of light spilling out as I knock on his door.
"Come in" he spoke with bitterness as I opened the door just as the two dog's prince and hunter perch up and started running right to me.
