chapter fourteen

I was sitting in the living room with my baby brother in my arms watching a childish show while my parents were out to grab some food. I just hope they come back before I leave as I told them I wanted to go out for a bit. The minute tick by closer and closer, biting the corner of my lip watching the clock.

"Were home sweetie" my mother yelled, throwing some of the bags down on the kitchen table walking into the living room scooping my brother up planting kisses everywhere on him and giving me a kiss on the forehead walking off. My dad came in after dropping a few bags on the floor. I got up setting the remote down on the coffee table about to head out until my dad laid his hand on my shoulder.

"Don't stay out too late" he said, rubbing my head a bit loose strands of hair falling from my face. I nodded my head running my hand back pulling the loose hair back in place walking out.

When I got to Griffin place, I noticed him sitting out on the front porch reading a book as he looked up seeing me rushing over next to my side with a slight smile.

"Hi (y/n)"

"Hi Griffin, can I come inside?"

"Oh yeah" he said, rushing inside the house. I followed him into the living room taking a seat on the floor. He took a seat next to me leaning back against the couch picking up the remote switching through some channels turning on (f/s) as I looked over to him.

"How did you?"

"Were friends (y/n) and I noticed you watching this show before" he said, holding back a smile leaning on one of his hands. I smiled laying my head back against the couch watching the show with him until I noticed the time getting closer to three as I got up thanking Griffin rushing back to my home seeing Finney at the front door. He looked up, seeing me waving slightly.

"Hi (y/n) I brought my rocket to test out some idea" he said holding up a model of a crafted rocket. It looked kind of cool but not something we could use for our project. Sense it was already built and made. We stayed outside coming up with a few ideas while I drew an outline of a few rockets ship builds, some of them not looking so great as I kept redrawing new designs. While Finney was writing down what we would need to build the rocket "Do you have any of these?"

"No I don't" I said looking up from my sketch book.

"I only have a few things back at my place the rest will need to go to the hardware store"

"I got some money for it" I said getting up. He also got up walking off motion for me to follow as we headed down the street stopping in front of a gray house. There was a girl standing outside talking to another girl as she looked up seeing Finney smiling a bit running over.

"Hi brother, who's your girlfriend?" the girl asked, teasing him while looking over to me. My face started turning a bright red.

"No no this is one of my partners for the science project her name (y/n)" he said walking past her inside the house.

"Hi" I said, waving my hand a little towards her, slightly feeling awkward.

"Hi I'm Gwen, Finney younger sister how come I never seen you around before"

"Oh, I moved here a while ago, nice to meet you Gwen" I said already knowing me and her would become close friends soon. Finney came back with some supplies telling Gwen to behave as she rolled her eyes shouting some stuff teasing him again as we headed off to the hardware store. I stole the list out of Finney arm walking around the store checking off items we needed, putting them in a cart down to the last item. I hope the person working here won't stop us from getting these items as we had to wait in line for a couple minutes before paying.

We got back to my place as Finney and I both were building the rocket, testing it out a few times checking to see if it would fly as we both cheered once it shot to the sky flying higher and higher until it started crashing down.

"Wow that was amazing" he said walking over picking up the rocket checking for any scratches.

"Told you we had to build it with a sharper tip" I said, laughing a little while picking up the leftover pieces. He laughed, helping me up as both of our hands touch trying to pick up the last piece. I quickly pulled my hand back letting him grab it. He looked at me before looking away, throwing the pieces in the trash checking the time.

"Sorry I have to get going before my dad gets home"

"I'll see you at school Monday then later Finney" I said giving a warm smile walking inside my house slamming the door shut walking back in my room throwing my blanket around me laying on the bed yawning deciding to take a nap.
