Chapter 12

I'm on an update roll!

Chase's POV

Man, I was tired! I loved being a doctor but hated pulling the night shift. It really messed up my internal clock. But I owed my uncle a favor. Plus he is the one who got me interested in the medical field and the Academy. Now the hospital can boast that they have two Dr. Roberts!

After pulling up through the gates and reaching the garages, I noticed a new car. Oh yeah, we have a couple of house guests. Brady had texted me about it. A woman named Delphine and her daughter Lexine. Their names rhymed I realized. There was probably a story there.

I had planned on going straight to bed but as soon as I stepped inside, the savory smell of tomatoes, onions and garlic made my stomach growl. I made my way to the kitchen wondering which one of my brothers suddenly learned how to cook better.

Reaching the kitchen I stopped short in the entrance. There was a woman there humming along to music and cooking away. I leaned against the doorway and watched her. She was barely over five feet tall, had wavy dark hair and a nice backside. I wanted her to turn around so that I could see the other side.

She finally turned around and I wasn't disappointed. A beautifully exotic face with dark green eyes and the curves in the front were just right.  Wait what? When did I become a pervert? She looked startled but right away I immediately understood what made the guys take her in. Her eyes gave her away. 

I introduced myself and shook her hand. I didn't accept her offer to make a sandwich for me because I didn't want to take advantage of her. I could tell that people have done that before. She seemed good natured and giving.

Before I left the kitchen I couldn't resist the impulse to kiss her cheek. After all, the apron was telling me to do it!

Delphine's POV

I just got kissed on the cheek! By a handsome doctor! I just stood there for a minute holding my cheek. All the attention that I was getting today from the guys made me feel warm inside. I was going to miss them when I found a place to live. I wondered if we would stay friends. I also realized that if I didn't find a job here, I would have to move on to a different city.

With the sauce finally done, I set it to simmer and went off in search of Lexine and the guys in the backyard. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was! It was like a park with benches, fountains, and grass. I looked over and gasped. There was even a large swimming pool! I loved to swim.

Hearing the guys laughing and calling out to each other mixed in with little girl giggles made me smile and I made my way over to them. Lexine had a huge smile on her face. I hadn't seen her this happy since... Probably a few years. Preston, Jake and Lexine were taking turns kicking the ball around.

Lexine noticed me first and came running over and hugged me around my legs. I picked up Lexine and gave her a big kiss. Preston and Jake came over looking adorably rumpled from play.  I had to fight the urge to give them a kiss as well.

"Don't I get a kiss too?" asked Jake and laughed. Preston looked a little wistful for a few seconds like he also wanted one but then quickly put on a bland expression.

Without thinking I blurted out, "There has been enough kissing today."

The men looked at each other and then at me.

"Who? What?" They asked at the same time.

"I uh.. I um.. met Chase a little bit ago." I stammered. "He was just teasing me because of the apron, I think. It was just on the cheek. Didn't mean anything..." I looked down at the ground twisting my hands.  

They both started to snicker and I knew that my face was flaming red.

"Were you wearing the kiss me apron?" asked Jake still laughing.

"Yes, I found it in a drawer in the kitchen."

Preston said, "Jake bought that as a joke for Brady and he's been refusing to wear it. I'm thinking that he will want to wear it now if he could get results like what you got."

"Oh, Brady wants Chase to kiss his cheek too?" I said while hiding a smile.

Preston looked at me trying to figure out if I was serious about that question which made Jake laugh even harder. I couldn't keep a straight face anymore and started to giggle. Preston started laughing too.

"Life is much more fun with these two around!" Jake said picking Lexine and started to run towards the house with her. She squealed happily.  

Preston grinned at me with a glint in his eye. I gave him a "don't you dare" look and backed away. It didn't  do any good. In a blink of an eye, I found myself thrown over Preston's shoulder as he jogged back to the house too.
