"Unfairly took the life of his silent business partner, Kim Ji Won, also known as 'Bobby.'"

Lily froze when the words pierced her ears. The men that surrounded her became enraged at the accusation as well as his usage of the words.

Several of the men began speaking to her defense, but Lily's voice overpowered them all. "With all due respect, my history with that man-"

JK held his hand up to silence her. "I know about your history with him. I've locked that file away and prefer not to be reminded of those details."

Expressions of gratitude and relief replaced the looks of anger and horror. Lily felt humiliation, knowing that he likely knew the most horrific details.

JK looked to Lily with sympathy and compassion in his expression. "I don't want to make you uncomfortable, but I do feel the need to apologize for my knowledge. Though it was necessary for me to know the facts, it is unfair to you that such delicate details of your life were available to me."

Lily gratefully smiled and replied, "I appreciate your kindness and understanding."

JK returned her smile and nodded. "Of course, Ms. Lily. Now, with that being said, I also feel the need to applaud you. In such a short time, you became the Boss of the Mafia group you were forced into, and wasted no time making a name for yourself."

The group shared proud smiles as Lily replied, "Thank you. But I owe everything to my team. My boys are the reason for my accomplishments."

JK's smile grew larger as he continued, "You remind me of my sister- Little Quokka's mother. She would have loved you."

Lily immediately noticed a hint of sadness in Han's expression. Before anything else could be said, JK quickly continued, "Anyway- back to business. Obviously, I denied the collection order, which brings up to the real reason you're here. Lia."

"Is she safe?" Yeji asked hesitantly.

"For the time being, she is. Whether she remains that way is up to you." JK replied sternly, confusing the group.

"Up to me?" Yeji asked, furrowing her brows. "Of course we-"

JK threw his hand up to silence her,  "Before you finish that sentence, you need to hear what I have to say."

JK opened a file and slid it across the table to Chan. Lily and Yeji, who sat on either side of Chan, looked down at the file. The three flipped through the pages of call transcripts, surveillance photos, as well as other documents.

JK spoke as they read the documents and passed them around. "Lia's brother, Choi Tae. A while back, he got involved with Kwon and ended up botching a drug deal. He was unable to repay the lost funds, so he was forced to repay his debt in other ways. Being that I refused to collect the supposed debt, he decided to use Choi. They had discovered Lily's position and whereabouts and made arrangements to capture her, but I had my men in position to intercept."

Lily's heart sank at the realization of how close she was to danger. "When?" She asked before even realizing she had vocalized her thought.

JK pursed his lips before replying. "The night they found you out. Choi was to set fire to your home as a distraction, then take off with you. He was intercepted a mile from your home."

Eyes widened across the room at this revelation, but no one spoke. Floods of thoughts, however, invaded their minds.

"When the task wasn't completed, he assumed Choi ran, so he contacted Lia. He told her that he was holding Choi captive and would kill him and their family if she didn't repay his debt. She was to invite Lily out to a club. There, Lia was to slip something in her drink, then excuse herself. A man by the name of Brian would then take her."

Shock and disbelief were glued to the faces of each person listening to this insane timeline of events. Lily was beginning to feel overwhelmed and began breathing heavily.

"Chan, you foiled that plan when you attacked Brian's hideout the next night. When you asked for Lia's assistance, you opened another door. She alerted Kwon of Chan's plan immediately. She was instructed to get him out of there alive."

Seungmin's face immediately contorted with sudden realization. He began visualizing the image of Brian's body that Hyunjin had captured.

JK continued his speech as Seungmin and the others processed the information. "Now, when I received official police reports that his body was recovered, I was satisfied and left the case alone. That is until I recieved contradicting information."

All eyes locked on JK in horror. "What the fuck are you saying?" Chan growled, glaring at JK.

"It seems as though Kwon boarded a flight to Australia. That same flight carried a small medical team as well as a gunshot victim under the name 'John Doe.'"

Chan stood from his seat. "Are you telling me he's still alive?"

Yeji looked up at Chan, then to JK with desperation in her eyes. "Tell me this isn't true. Tell me she didn't save his life."

Hyunjin finally spoke with confusion evident in his voice. "We saw his body. She set the house on fi-" He paused when he made the connection. "She set the fire. She told us to go ahead- that she would take care of it."

Seungmin added, "His gunshot wounds weren't fatal. I saw that from the picture. But the fire- I didn't question because of the fire."

JK sat back in the chair and laced his fingers together across his torso. "Seems as though my suspensions are correct. I had Lia captured so I could get to the bottom of this. However before I could have her interrogated, you retaliated. I thought it necessary that you be informed before you went further with your retaliation. Again, you proved to be a step ahead when I recieved a call from my dear nephew yesterday."

An eerily deafening silence filled the atmosphere. Each person was in deep thought, desperate to make sense of everything. Chan placed his hand on Lily's shoulder and stared deep into JK's eyes. "So you mean to tell me, Lia- whom I've known my entire life- has betrayed us? Brian is still alive?"

Yeji and the other members of her team dropped their heads in shame.  Tears began to stain each of their faces.

JK raised up and propped his elbows on the table. "Unfortunately, it seems so. Whether he's still alive- we'll look into that. But for now- I would suggest you assume that he is."

Lily closed her eyes as a tear slipped down her cheek. Upon seeing her first display of actual emotion, JK stood from his seat and walked to her. He reached for her hand, which she gave. "Ms. Lily. I am not one to get involved in rivalries, however I feel a sense of responsibility and dedication to you and your team. You have my word, Topline will be at your disposal."
