The four members of ITZY had just returned from BLACKPINK headquarters, leaving the rescues in their care. Being consumed with concern for Yeji, Ateez insisted that the two other groups relax until she was out of surgery. A tense, deafening silence engulfed the atmosphere as they waited. It had been hours, and they'd heard nothing.
Hyunjin froze, and his heart sank when he heard the med bay door open. Han stepped out and immediately gave a reassuring smile, hoping to ease the tension of those who were waiting for news.
"They're gonna be fine." Han stated with an exhausted tone.
Expressions of relief and cheers filled the room. Chan immediately consumed Hyunjin in a celebratory embrace that was quickly interrupted when Felix furrowed his eyebrows and asked, "You said- 'they' would be fine?"
All eyes were instantly diverted back to Han, who nodded his head. "Sit. I'll try to explain this in layman's terms."
Everyone settled in around the conference table, as Han explained. "Seungmin was able to remove the bullet. The damage was more extensive than we anticipated, but thankfully, it missed all vital organs. He's closing her up now. If it hadn't been for Lily, Yeji would have never even made it to surgery."
Eyes widened across the room, and dumbfounded expressions covered each face as Han continued. "Yeji was losing too much blood. She's o negative, so she can only receive o negative blood. He didn't have it in stock, and no one here was a match. Except Lily. She insisted, so I set up the transfusion. During the transfusion, Lily's vitals dropped from the rapid blood loss. Yeji was stable enough, so I immediately ended the transfusion and set her up to an IV fluid drip. Both of their vitals are stable now. Seungmin wants Lily to stay down here overnight, but she should be fine by tomorrow afternoon. Hyunjin, he'll come and get you when he's done. He said for the rest of you to go eat and sleep because he's too tired to treat anyone else for their stupidity."
***
Both Yeji and Lily were asleep when Hyunjin was finally able to see them. Even though he couldn't talk, just seeing them was enough to ease his mind. Despite Seungmin's intense protests, Hyunjin slept in a chair between each of their beds and held both of their hands throughout the remainder of the night. Seungmin and Han slept in shifts so that the girls could be closely monitored.
Lily woke to Seungmin changing her IV. "Good morning, beautiful. How do you feel?"
She groggily blinked her eyes and smiled, then realized Hyunjin was holding her hand. "Weak. Has he been here all night?"
Seungmin nodded as he released the clamp on the tube, allowing the fluid to flow into Lily's veins once again. "I tried to make him leave, but I gave up. He's a stubborn ass."
Hyunjin grunted as he blinked his eyes open. "I can hear you dickhead."
Seungmin scoffed as he lifted the back of her bed to seating position. He leaned down and gave Lily a gentle but passionate kiss before looking to Hyunjin. "Yeji is holding stable. I'm going to get you two some breakfast."
"And get some for yourself, too, Minnie." Lily instructed as he walked away.
Hyunjin stood and sat on the edge of Lily's bed facing her. "My angel." He whispered as tears blurred his vision. He threw himself into her with his head against her chest and held her as his tears warmed his cheeks.
Lily wrapped her arms around him and kissed the top of his head.
The emotions that he had been surpressing finally poured out of him. He began sobbing into her chest. "You saved her life. You saved my sister's life. I don't know how to thank you. You didn't even know her, and you risked your own life to-"
Lily gently pushed Hyunjin away enough to direct his eyes to hers. She smiled softly as she wiped his tears. "Jinnie. Breathe, baby. Listen to me. Since the second we met, she treated me like her sister. It was the least I could do. And if for no other reason, you would have been enough. There was no way I could stand by and allow her to die, knowing what it would do to you. Baby, I'd do it again even if I knew it would cost me my life. I don't want you to thank me because seeing you happy is thanks enough."
Hyunjin stared at her with astonishment. The words flew out of her mouth so effortlessly, and he knew she meant every word. He was in disbelief that someone could care so much. Especially given that just a couple of weeks prior, she was brought to them by force and unintentionally assaulted by several members of their group. Himself being one of them. He shook his head and said, "After everything that you've been through. Before you got here, the kidnapping. What we did- and almost did to you. After all of that, you still- You're an angel. You're my angel- and I love you. Goddammit, Lily, I fucking love you so much."
Hyunjin was in such an emotional state, that his words flew out of his mouth quicker than he could think.
Tears filled Lily's eyes as the words danced into her ears. Her increased heart rate was visible on the vitals monitor that beeped next to her bed."Jinnie-" She whispered as she placed both hands on his cheeks. A smile consumed her face before she replied. "Jinnie, I love you too."
