Chapter 141: Stay Calm

Hyunjin cradled Lily against him as he stepped out of the bathroom. He smiled when he peeked down at her sleeping face as he walked toward the family bedroom.

Having left his phone in the kitchen, he paused and furrowed his brows when he saw it laying on the bedside table.

He gently laid her in the bed and covered her with the thick blanket before picking up his phone. He unlocked it to see a notification from Chan.

Leeknow quietly stepped into the room with a fearful and exhausted expression.

Hyunjin met him at the door and whispered, "Hold her. She's extremely clingy."

He didn't wait for Leeknow to respond before he quickly exited the room.

The blood left his face when he saw Chan and Changbin. The only other time he had seen those expressions of their faces was when Woojin was killed. He paused, afraid to ask again what was happening.

Chan peeked up and took a deep breath. "Sit down, Hyunjin. And please, remember to stay calm."

Hyunjin lowered into his seat just as Felix entered the room, still damp from his shower. Hyunjin's fear and worry increased when he saw the bruises and scrapes on Felix's body.

"What the fuck happened!" Hyunjin growled as he stood back to his feet.

Felix flashed a sad smile as he pulled out a chair. "I'm fine. Is Lily asleep?"

Hyunjin was starting to get angry that his question was being avoided, yet again. "Yes! Tell me what the fuck is happening or I'll wake her up and let her get it out of yall!"

"Sit down, Hyunjin." Chan instructed again with a stern tone.

Hyunjin did as he was told and anxiously waited for an explanation. "First of all- before you ask- you were kept out of this because we couldn't risk Lily knowing what was happening at the time. It would have been too much stress on her and the baby."

Hyunjin furrowed his brows as he began to realize the severity of the situation.

Chan paused, struggling to form the words. Finally, he took a deep breath and continued, "Felix and I.N were followed from the mall and attacked. I.N was shot. He's been in surgery for a little over 30 minutes."

Hyunjin widened his eyes as he turned back to Felix as if to confirm that it was true before turning back to Chan. "How bad?"

Chan pursed his lips together. "He was hit in the side. Seems to have missed major organs, but the bullet is lodged. He lost a lot of blood and he crashed in the van on the way here. Han got him back and kept him stable until we got here. They took him straight in for surgery. We don't know anything else right now."

Hyunjin's anger was quickly taking over. "Did they get away?"

Felix scoffed, hoping to lighten the thick tension that was overtaking them. "Who the fuck do you think we are? Hell no, they didn't get away."

Changbin chuckled as he raised forward. "Looked like a fucking battleground when we got there. Three dead- three captured."

Hyunjin turned back to face Felix. "Just you and I.N against six?"

Felix nodded and explained everything that had happened from the time they left the mall until they got home.

Hyunjin sat silently, processing what he was told. He shook his head in disbelief before asking, "He's gonna be ok, right?"

Chan gave a reassuring smile and replied, "You know he's in good hands. He's gonna be fine. Han will come out and update us as soon as he's able to. But it may be a few hours. You need to go back to Lily. If she wakes up before you hear from me, try to keep her distracted. I would prefer that she doesn't find anything out until he's out of surgery, but if you have to tell her-"

Hyunjin interrupted as he stood and rolled his chair under the table. "I'll handle it, Chan. Don't worry."

Chan haphazardly smiled and nodded. "Remember to stay calm. For her."

It had only been a couple of hours when Hyunjin felt Lily stirring against him. He gently tightened his embrace as he closed his eyes and held his breath, silently praying that she would go back to sleep.

He carefully lifted his phone to check for any notifications that may have come through in the last couple of minutes. He was just starting to think that she was still asleep until he heard her soft voice. "Jinnie?"

"Yes, my angel." He replied, trying his best to mask the emotions that were overwhelming him.

She raised up and narrowed her eyes at him, studying his face.

"What's wrong, baby?" He asked softly as he caressed her back.

"I was gonna ask you that." She replied in a suspicious tone.

He let out a quick chuckle, trying to continue his facade. "Me? Angel, why would you-"

She completely sat up and glared at him. "Cut the shit, Hyunjin. You're hiding something." She hissed as she continued to study his demeanor.

He turned his head and slid out of bed. "I'm fine, angel. Do you want me to get us a snack?"

She stared blankly at him, debating on whether to push the issue. Finally she shook her head. "Hyunjin. Please don't lie to me."

His expression immediately changed as he let out a deep breath. "Angel- please. I'm begging you. Stay calm." He pleaded as he climbed back into the bed and wrapped his arms around her, preparing for what he knew was about to happen.

Her heart began to race and her body began to tremble. "Jinnie-"

"Promise to let me tell you everything before you react." He continued, holding her a little tighter as he pressed his lips against her head.

"Ok. Please, just spit it out." She hissed.

"Baby. I.N is in surgery-" He immediately felt her tense and start to pull away. He tightened his grasp. "No baby. I need you to relax and listen, ok? He and Felix were attacked on the way home- he was shot, but-"

Suddenly, his strength failed to keep her in his embrace. She flew out of the bed, knocking Hyunjin back. She screamed out as her tears streamed down her face.

He instantly followed her, and grabbed her before she could reach the door. He held her as gently, yet as firmly as he could. Her sobs became uncontrollable as her knees gave out.

Hyunjin supported her weight and sank to the floor with her. He pulled her into his lap and rocked her as he brushed the hair from her face. Her body violently shook against him. He rested his lips against her head, and spoke over her sobs. "Shh. Breathe, baby. He's gonna be ok. Seungmin and Han are taking the best care of him. Please baby."

Trying to find any way he could to calm her, he took her hand and led it to her stomach. He laid his hand on top of hers and spoke desperately. "You have to stay calm, angel. You have to breathe. He's gonna be ok."
