Chapter 34: Leo

I had gone back on the Argo II and went into my room. I’m pathetic. I can’t even stop Alex from becoming a hunter! What was I supposed to do? It’s not like I can just come up to her and say I didn’t want to leave.

I pound my fist against the wall. I felt completely useless. There was nothing I could do to stop what’s going on. All I could do was slump against the wall, desperately thinking about how to try talking her out of it. Unfortunately, I knew it was useless. Alex was the most stubborn person I have ever known.

“Leo,” I nearly leaped out of my skin. It was the voice again! “Leo, my little savior, you cannot fail me. Alex must not become a hunter, if you value the lives of everyone in the world.” I look around, not knowing where the voice was coming from.

“Well what do you expect me to do?” I scream at the top of my lungs. “There is nothing I can do to stop this!” I whip around wildly, hoping to maybe find where the voice was coming from. “WHO ARE YOU? I have nothing to do with any of this, so go bother someone else!” The voice didn’t reply, and I pounded the wall again in frustration.

“Are you ok?” Alex had cracked open the door. She was basked in silver light.

“Ya, I’m fine” I lied miserably.

“It was the voice again?” I shrug. She motioned for me to come outside with her. I figured it was dinner time. I couldn’t help but look over at Alex; did the silver mean she was a hunter? Then I realized that it was ejecting from her dagger.

“Why is your knife glowing?” I couldn’t help but ask. She smiled, unsheathing it.

“According to Artemis, this is actually a hunter’s knife. She told me that she had died a hero’s death, and it is an honor for me to carry her knife.”

“Did she say who it was?”

“Some girl named Bianca; didn’t say a last name. Either way, she gave it some blessing or something. It’s supposed to give me energy in a fight. She figured it would be helpful on our quest.”

“So, so you’re NOT a huntress?” I asked a little surprised.

“No, of course not; my dad always said to never join something you can’t quit.”
