Chapter 59: Alex

I awoke on the cold marble floor of Circe’s thrown room, startles. Circe sat maniacally on her thrown, staring down at me. “What did you do?” I demand, scrambling to my feet.

“Oh, just a simple sleeping curse, no harm done. Except, did I forget to mention that I can control everything you do while you are under my curse.” My memory was hazing, but I did remember drinking something that tasted strange.

“What did you do? How long have I been asleep?” Circe raised a hand to motion me to be silent. I listened, and I finally heard the clanging of metal on metal, and screaming of people and monsters. “NO!” I scream. The battle was underfoot, in the castle. “Why?!” I demand. Circe cackled.

“Well I can’t let you loose, and fight me now can I? I have you in my grasp, and you can’t get away from me. Your little army will go and kill themselves.” I ran to the door and tugged but it didn’t budge. She laughed. I didn’t really think it would work of course, but I had to try, right?

“Why! Why now? What do you want with me! I’m never going to join you!”

“Oh, well you see Tempest, I have my way to get the things I want. Even in my weakened state. So, what do you say? Join me. We can rule the world together.” I was tempted. Circe could sense it too. She smiled and held out her hand. “With your help, we can rule the world. You will never been lonely again. You could have anything your heart desires.” She’s lying! I told myself fiercely. I couldn’t go with her! “Come, my sister.” It took all I had in me to refuse.

“No! You liar! Don’t you think I know what you’re doing?” Circe’s eyes went cold. And she lowered her hand.

“You will soon see the light, Tempest Parker. You will greatly regret this.” She muttered something under her breath and shot her hand up in the air. Green bolts of lightning sprang up from the ground into the clouds.

“What did you just do?” I ask quizzically.

“Why don’t I show you,” she brought me up to a table with a huge mirror propped up in the center. I stare into it. I saw Percy and Annabeth standing back to back with some of Circe’s strange demon-creatures surrounding them. I saw the same thing as all my other friends had flashed on the surfaced on the mirror, accept for… “Now for your little friends Leo, maybe you’d prefer not to know.” I grab the collar of her dress.

“Show me” I say through clenched teeth. She smiled that horrible, evil smile of hers.

“As you wish,” I stared into the mirror at Leo, screaming in pain. She was torturing him! His blood splattered the stones, and the chains that kept him to the rocks were so badly bloodstained, it was obvious that he was not the first she had tortured. It was hard for me to process. Leo was the most upbeat and energetic person I have ever known! To see him broken like that was just unbearable. I turned on Circe and with magic, slammed her up against the wall. She laughed maliciously.  I kept her pinned against the wall.

            “Where is he?” I shout.

“Oh, I don’t know, somewhere around here” she said, still smiling. She was definitely enjoying making me suffer.

“Tell me!” I shout as loud as I could.

“Ok, I will. There’s no need to yell dearie. But he is in the clearing at the entrance of the caves of course. He will be lunch for my army shortly.” She smiled and I shot her in the head. I knew it wouldn’t kill her. Knock her out to say the least, but it should be able to get her demons away from my friends, for it would break her concentration. It also took the spell off the door, and it opened easily.

I ran to where Circe told me Leo was, but it had never crossed my mind that she could have been lying.
