Chapter 86. Telling potions.
The following months were keeping Snape very busy, not only with his continuing potion classes but with watching Quirrel. Snape did not trust him to not some how learn how to get past Fluffy and he did not trust him around Harry Potter. Snape was thankful for his ability to hide in the darkness so as to observe others without being seen. He found he had to be careful around Harry and Hermione since they seemed to be more aware of things and able to detect things others could not.
Snape watched as the trio walked through the halls, talking angrily about the last time they had potion class with him. He did noticed that Harry had a tendency to refer to him as Snape not professor, he chuckled to himself; it was so like James with a teacher that he didn’t like or respect. Snape tried to ignore the little voice, which said remember Lily was the same way and so were you. It was after all more fun to blame James for it then to see that Harry was like his mother.
The following week Snape was busy in the class room, he had set the students to work on a plant growing solution, he had promised Professor Sprout he would have his class, make up some for her classes to use with some new plants she had just received and were too small for them to use properly. Snape had liked Professor Sprout who had started working at Hogwarts a couple years before he had left the school.
Snape walked around the class looking down into the cauldrons at their different potions. Draco had spoken up as he walked over to look into his cauldron, the potion was looking very good, not as great as he him self could do but for a first year student it was looking good.
“Very good Draco, you are quite adept at Potions.” Snape smiled at Draco who was beaming like a beacon.
“Thank you sir, my mom had always said you were the best one at school when it came to potions and other subjects.” Draco grinned, in a charming way.
“Do thank your mother for me Draco; she is most kind with her praise.” Although she left out quite a bit of info, like Lily was the best at potions and my efforts were all to make her happy.
Snape said nothing of this of course as he walked around, he sneered at Longbottom’s attempts at potion, it was instead of a sea green, was a reddish brown and seemed to be folding in on its self.
“Zero points for you Longbottom, this…. would kill all of the plants Professor Sprout has in her green houses.”
Neville looked horrified, after all Herbology was the one class he was able to excel in and the thought of killing of Professor Sprout’s plants horrified him.
“Neville, I can help you.” Hermione told him softly. Hermione quickly went to work whispering to Neville how to make his potion right.
Snape had ignored her whispering to Neville on how to correct his potion. He was privately wondering if she could do it. Snape vividly remembering Peter Pettigrew making similar mistakes and with the help of Lily he was able to correct his mistakes and make a decent showing of a potion. He did fall apart and would make a complete mess of things when he had not had Lily around at times to help him out.
Snape looked down his nose at Harry’s cauldron, his nose wrinkling in disgust. The potion was passable but it would never be the quality that Lily’s had ever been, he found it odd that this boy could be Lily’s son, since potions was clearly not his strong suit.
“Still having trouble I see, when; will you learn.” Snape said silkily as he walked around from Potter to look at Ron Weasley’s potions, then Crabbe and Goyle’s. Yuk these two dunderheads are as always hopeless. Snape walked on by theirs saying nothing as usual since they were in his house.
