Chapter 90. Excitement reigns.
Snape smiled happily his dream left him feeling as though things were not as bad as they felt. Severus left his room for the Great Hall. He knew that classes were starting today but he would not have Harry and his pals in his class yet. He sat eating his breakfast watching the students talking and enjoying their morning before classes. Snape talked quietly to Madam Pomfrey who was very pleased about having Harry in school and safe and not on the train home from their adventure on the way to school yesterday.
“Such a nice boy, it is so amazing how much he looks likes his dad, except those eyes.” Pomfrey was looking lovingly at Harry.
“He definitely has his mother’s eyes. I though had always thought James ruffled up his hair on purpose, but their son’s hair seems to have its own agenda.” Snape smirked he looked at Harry’s hair, which was as always sticking up in odd places and ways.
“Yes I remember James ruffling up his hair when he thought it wasn’t looking untidy enough, he was quite a boy.” Pomfrey smiled at Snape who gave her a lopsided grin.
“It’s a shame you two had never gotten to be friends, I think you’d have gotten along very well.”
“So I am told,” Snape grinned at Pomfrey who looked at him curiously. “Lily had of course told me this many times while we were here in school.”
Madam Pomfrey laughed at this. “She was quite a girl her self.” Pomfrey looked at Snape sadly. “I do wonder what might have happen if… well it matters not…. now…” Pomfrey smiled sadly at Snape who raised his eyes at her.
Before he could ask her what she meant, the morning owl post came flying into the Great Hall.
Snape looked to see the owls flying to their perspective recipients. Snape smirked broadly. He noticed the red howler that was now standing in front of Ron Weasley after the owl made a disastrous landing knocking things over. Snape chuckled softly at the look of horror on Ron’s face and the look of incomprehension on Harry’s face. “Looks like Harry, is going to learn what a howler is.” Snape whispered to Pomfrey who placed her hands over her ears while nodding in agreement.
Snape couldn’t help but laugh as the boys looked horrified at the howler screaming through out the hall, causing everyone to turn and see who had gotten the worse kind of punishment possible.
Snape and Pomfrey then talked about Lockhart, and did he have any real talent and would he be able to teach the class of Defense Against the Dart Arts.
“He was a couple years behind Lily and I, the guy was hopeless then, he couldn’t do any real magic, and at Dark Arts he was hopeless, I heard about the things he did in his classes.”
Pomfrey had to agree she had to help him many times when he had made a complete mess of something and had been brought to her to be sorted out.
Pomfrey did find it interesting how many times Snape had talked about his time at school with references to Lily and him self. If only he had known…. Pomfrey thought sadly. She wanted to tell him of their son but Dumbledore felt it best to wait until he-who-must-not-be-named was gone for good to keep their son safe. She hated to think that he was missing out on many years with his own child.
Snape took the class schedules from Dumbledore and left the table with a smirk still on his face as he walked along the Slytherin table handing them out to the students, carefully checking to make sure that he did not mix any up with the wrong year student. Also checking with his older students to make sure they had the proper required owls to move on.
“Hello Professor Snape how was your summer?” Draco chimed up immediately when Snape reached him where he was of course sitting with his two dense but large friends.
