Chapter 100
Snape had taken another goblet full of Wolfsbane to Remus who was looking very peaky.
“Ah thank you Severus, I do so appreciate this.” Lupin took the smoking goblet from Severus who gave a curt nod of his head.
“Before you go I have a … favor to ask of you?” he said softly.
Snape turned to look at him with arched eyebrows and an inquisitive look, “That favor being?”
“I do believe by my next class I shall be in no condition to….. Teach the students, if you wouldn’t mind taking it over for me?” Remus smiled faintly at Snape who looked stonily back at him.
“I shall be glad to help you out Lupin, just leave me your notes on what you have taught them so far.” Snape said in soft silky tones.
“Thank you Severus I really do appreciate all you’ve done.” Remus smiled weakly up at him. Snape nodded quickly and left the room.
So he can’t teach then I think it’s time to see what kind of students they are. Severus thought grimly as he walked back to his office. He knew when the time came what he would want to teach the classes.
Severus entered the classroom where they were learning Defense Against the Dark Arts. The students all looked very surprised to see him walk in and start closing all the curtains as he walked to the front of the classroom.
“Class, your regular teacher Professor Lupin is not able to be here today so I am filling in for him, now pay attention.” Severus stood behind the teachers table he had already looked over their regimen for the class on what they had been learning, much to his dismay, Lupin had been doing a very good job of catching them up on all the subjects they had been so behind on with the incompetent git they had the previous year.
“Now we shall begin a new Dark creature today….” The door banged open and Harry Potter came hurrying inside the classroom.
“Sorry I’m late Professor Lupin, I—”
Snape felt a tug of laughter at the sight of Harry’s face. He figures the boy would fall over faint seeing him in here.
“This lesson began ten minutes ago, Potter, so I think we’ll make it ten points from Gryffindor, sit down.” Snape said coldly.
Severus noticed that Harry was still standing staring comically at him.
“Where’s professor Lupin?” Harry asked.
“He says he is feeling too ill to teach today.” Snape told him honestly. “I believe I told you to sit down.” Snape wondered how long Harry would stand staring at him in disbelief.
“What’s wrong with him?”
Snape felt that tug returned as he remembered Lily doing the same thing in potion class when Slughorn was out ill for a couple of weeks. Lily had at that time gotten into trouble with the substitute and had left in a big huff. She had also skipped the next class with the substitute and had instead persuaded him to go with her out to the lawn by the lake. He really had preferred that to the incompetent teacher. Holding Lily in his arms and kissing her for that hour and a half was sheer bliss.
“Nothing life-threatening,” Unfortunately, if it was then I’d know for sure Black can’t get back in here. Snape thought grumpily. “Five more points from Gryffindor, and if I have to ask you to sit down again it will be fifty.” Snape figured that would get him to obey finally. He’s so like James, Snape thought watching while Harry walked slowly to his seat and sat down. Snape looked around at the class they were at least paying attention to him now and not Potter.
