Chapter 139,
The morning had started out, a dark gray; the wind was blowing hard through the grounds, as Snape made his way up from his dungeon room, to the Great Hall where the students would soon be arriving for their Apparition lessons. Snape remembered back fondly of his own time coming to the Great Hall to try his skills at Apparition. Snape had stood close to Lily who was as always was surrounded by James and his pals.
Snape grinned as James was yelled at for talking to Lily and Sirius instead of paying attention to what the Apparition instructor was telling them about his dull D’s.
Snape had whispered to Lily at the time that James would probably leave his butt behind for all to see. Lily had laughed at this as she whispered back to him that that had been her very fear with trying to disapperate.
Snape’s grin had widened as he remembered his response, “You have the best butt to leave behind, all the guys in here will love seeing it,” Then he had slapped her butt with a pinch, Lily had giggled as cutely as always. James had turned scowling at Snape not knowing what they had talked about since he was busy talking with Sirius again.
“What fun we had that day Lily, all of us trying to get into a stupid hoop, but once we learned it was so simple. You though were the first to successfully do it. As always you were more then talented, you were incredible my love,” Snape said softly as he reached the hall toward the Great Hall.
“They say geniuses always talk to themselves, it must be true,”
Snape jumped in surprise he had not realized he had company as he looked to see Luna walking now beside him looking as serenely as always.
“Miss Lovegood, why are you up so early? You are a fifth year students so are not yet able to take the Apparition lessons.”
“Oh yes I know this, but I do love to be up early when there are no others around, the school is so peaceful, at that time. It is the same with late at night, but I may end up in trouble then.” Luna said softly as she walked along side Snape.
“I understand, the late evening is restful time of day.”
“Yes it is, so who is the woman that you love?”
Snape stopped suddenly looking at her, with wide eyes.
“I heard you say that she was talented and incredible,” Luna reminded him unnecessary.
“She is… the only woman I had loved, she died a long time ago though.”
“Wow you must have really loved her; a lot to still talk to her spirit.” Luna said in her unabashed way of speaking the truths.
Snape smiled at her, “I do love her, we were in school together.”
Luna looked at Snape as though really seeing him, “That is so nice, was she your girlfriend?”
Snape chuckled at her, “Yes she was, at least until I…. disappointed her and she…. Left….. Me…”
“I am so sorry to hear that, it is hard when you find yourself making a mistake and paying for it, with your heart.”
“You speak the truth Miss. Lovegood, but at least I have my memories of her.”
“So her name was Lily,” Luna said with her uncanny way of telling things straight to the point.
“What makes you say that?”
Luna looked at him as though she was sure he knew she was right, “Your little pet her name is Lily. I had figured it was named for someone you were close too. I am sure I would have liked your Lily.”
