Chapter 136
It was the night for the Slughorn Christmas party the one he had invited a very select amount of people who could of course bring along a guest. Snape walked up to his office, he found that the music was playing loudly, already. Snape open the door, he had not been to one since he was a teen and had danced with Lily, until James had come over to reclaim her. It looked as always the same as before. The place was filled with food; the house elves were walking around with trays to feed the guests and Slughorn was happily talking to people while becoming quite drunk.
Snape walked inside when he saw Slughorn who quickly went to him and pulled him over to meet several people who were already there.
“This is Severus Snape, the man I told you about. He is an accomplished Potion master and knows more about Dark Arts then anyone I have ever met. He is unbelievable, you two should get to know each other,” Slughorn said happily as Snape arched an eyebrow at him.
“Professor, are you trying to fix me up with Gwenog Jones?” Snape said slightly amused and put out with him, after all she was quite young and he had no interest in her or any other woman.
“Severus how could you; say such things, I just thought…” Slughorn trailed off looking worried as Snape eyed him suspiciously.
“It is nice to meet you Gwenog; I hope you do not find it insulting that I have no interest in being set up with anyone at this time in my life.”
Gwenog who was also looking a tad alarmed smiled happily as she nodded her head.
“No problem, Professor Snape, I am much to busy with Quiddich to have any boyfriends, maybe after I retire though we can go out for drinks.”
Snape wasn’t sure what to say to this, he didn’t expect her to say that.
“Of course, if you still are interested at that time.” Snape told her diplomatically.
“Why don’t we go get a pastry, in the meantime?” Snape told her as he walked toward the pastry table, where a few others were standing.
Snape noticed that the place was becoming even more crowded as more people arrived. He was of course introduced to Slughorn’s friends Eldred Worple and Sanguini.
Snape talked for a while with him and found out that he knew his friend Grennich who was also a vampire but from a different colony they had met over the years though.
Snape saw Hermione come inside she looked very nice but he was even more surprised to see her with Cormac McLaggen, it seemed to him an unlikely couple. He knew girls could have odd taste in men as he thought of James Potter.
Snape watched as Cormac placed Hermione in a corner, his hands going wild as he kissed her eagerly. Hermione had pushed him back trying to get him to talk with her. Snape moved slightly closer to hear them, he was not surprised at Cormac’s long-winded tales about himself and all he had done in Quiddich.
What made that girl decide to date him? Snape wondered as Cormac once again went for her lips. Snape could see that she was less then thrilled. Snape brought out his wand and gave it a small flick toward Cormac. he was suddenly leaning up against the wall looking quite pleased with himself as Hermione made her way quickly into the crowd with a shout of “I’ll get us drinks,”
“Your welcome Hermione, next time pick your dates more carefully,” Snape walked off leaving a happy face Cormac still standing by the wall.
Snape lifted the daydream spell from him as he walked into the crowd. Snape then saw Harry with Slughorn, he was with Luna and much to his dismay he saw Trelawney. Snape didn’t want to see Harry; it was hard enough to see him in class without telling him how sorry he was for all that he had done to him and to please forgive him. Snape turn to leave when he felt a hand grab his arm hauling him backward. Snape knew what it meant, Slughorn wanted to have him join into the conversation.
