Chapter 96 Siriusly out

Snape did not go back to his home in Spinners end immediately when school had ended he was busy working on a few things at school first to be prepared for the start of the new school year. He hated to leave things to the last minute and would prefer everything was done and ready to go when school started up. He had joined Professor Aurora Sinistra, Professor Rolanda Hooch, Professor Bathsheba Babbling professor Septima Vector and professor Charity Burbage for end of the year celebration drinks at the Three Broomsticks. The other teachers had declined since they were much older and didn’t want to intrude on the younger teacher’s enjoyment. He talked and laughed with them and they all speculated on Gildroy’s time at St Mungos. Severus was secretly glad they looked past their time together in school to become friends with him and invite him out with them to have drinks. Rolanda was the eldest being a year ahead of them in school while Bathsheba, Septima, Charity were in his year and Aurora was a year younger then them.

He was glad when they had joined the teaching staff around the time he had also joined it. When they all left it was in good spirits and all feeling tipsy.

Snape had assured Dumbledore that he would take walks past Harry’s home and keep an eye on him if he went out wandering around the neighborhood. Severus would walk past his house looking up into the small room to see a small light glowing from there. Snape assumed it was wand light and that Harry must be busy reading or trying to do his homework. He had talked to Figg who had told him that the Dursley’s kept his things locked under the stairs where Harry use to sleep so he could not use any of his school things.

Severus was not impressed, with Petunia and Vernon, he had not liked them as a teenager and now he was growing to detest them both, as adults. He had of course given the students a fair amount of homework to be turned in first day of classes. Snape watched with half a grin on his face as he figured Harry must have broken into the cupboard and retrieved his spell books to get his work done and that was most likely the reasons for the wand light so late at night every night he had walked by to look up.

Snape was in his house the next day reading the daily Prophet to see a picture of a large happy family; the Weasley’s were all smiling and waving at the camera.

Severus chuckled a bit as he read about Arthur Weasley winning the draw in the Daily Prophet and was pleased for them; it might even give their children a chance to discover something new for their homework.

Snape had stayed up late the night before so had over slept in the morning, he did not mind though since he had nothing else planned for the day. Snape had gotten up and fixed a small breakfast. It was the day that Lily’s son would be turning thirteen, and would most likely not be doing anything to celebrate his birthday. Snape knew from the others that the Dursley’s never celebrated it and if they did give him presents they were useless junk the family no longer wanted.

Severus that night had gone to check on Harry and to make sure he had not left the house, Dumbledore had written and told Snape to keep an eye out since his aunt Marge was going to be visiting.

Snape noticed that the family was in eating and Harry looked as though he was trying to force down raw slugs.

“Poor kid,” Snape walked home in silence and was glad to retreat into his home where he could relax and not worry about anything else for now.

Severus had picked up the daily Prophet that had been left on the table for him the five Knuts were gone; the post owl had taken them after leaving the paper.

Snape sat down to read it when his eyes nearly fell out of his head as he read the headline.
