Chapter 128.
Snape was in his kitchen when the door open slowly he turned to see Wormtail standing there looking at him with his dull brown watery eyes hunched over and looking as always scared he was going to be blasted off his feet, it had been two weeks since the Dark Lord had foisted Peter off onto Snape who was watching him with great dislike etched on his narrow face.
“What do you want Wormtail?” Snape asked coldly.
“I… was…. Just ……going to….”
“Eat again, it’s all you seem good at doing.” Snape said even colder as he swept from the kitchen. Snape had found his unwanted guest was a terrible house cleaner the simplest spells for cleaning always went wrong and as far as cooking went the man was even more useless.
Snape sat in the stuff armchair the second one he had to throw out because of Peter’s incompetent at cleaning he had set it on fire instead. Snape looked at the couch across from him and the small old table between the two remaining pieces of furniture in the house. Snape watched with narrow eyes as Peter ambled out of the kitchen and walked to the staircase hidden by the large bookshelves. Snape was waiting for the Daily Prophet to arrive, by owl post as he ate a small dinner; it was not long before an owl was delivering the evening news.
Snape looked through it and as he expected Fudge had been sacked. They were replacing him with Rufus Scrimgour an odd looking man who it seemed had been arguing with Dumbledore. Snape raised an eyebrow wondering what they could have agued about although he was sure it would have to do with Harry Potter. Snape read the rest of the paper before using his wand to send it into the small fire place where it burst into flames upon the small log that was burning there, for some unknown reason the house never warmed up even during summer. Snape watched as it curled and burned as the few letters he had saved from Lily had done in that very fireplace. Not by his own hand this was because of his unwanted houseguest. Snape had at that time punished Peter for burning a box of what he had called old parchment that to him seemed useless looking and he said it was obviously saved for burning in the fireplace. Snape was beyond angry with Peter, they were the only letters he had that Lily had written to him and were all now a pile of ash, unable to be salvaged.
Snape suspected that Peter had done it on purpose especially from what Dumbledore had told him at the beginning of the summer when he found himself with an undesirable and unwanted guest who had gone snooping into his closet and had found the box with the words Lily on top of it. Snape had also modified his memory of it so that Peter would not go back to the Dark Lord and tell him what had happen to him, why Snape had used the crucio curse on him. Something Snape had rarely ever used himself since he had no desire to inflict pain on others Peter though was the exception.
It was now just a little while before the start of the school year and Snape would be rid of Peter. The Dark Lord had told him on his last report the man was worthless and not at all to be trusted alone, he would most likely be seen by others who knew him to be dead. The Dark Lord enjoys knowing that people were blaming Sirius for the deaths even after his own death. Snape though said nothing to this he kept his cool demeanor with him always and showed him a face of unconcern and even boredom at the thought of Black and Peter.
Snape gave a start as he heard a knock on the door; he rose to see who had come, calling at this time of night. Snape open the door just enough to peek out into the darkness when the hooded figure swept back her hood to reveal herself standing there pale as a ghost, her face looking drawn. Oh no not her, she better not be here for anything sexual, Snape thought as he opened the door a little wider. He felt almost a sense of relief as he noticed a second person with her.
“Narcissa, what a pleasant surprise,” Snape spoke softly as he looked at her; wondering what she wanted this time,
“Severus, may I speak to you, its urgent.”
