Chapter 122   Snape caught in the act.

Snape walked up to Dumbledore’s office before breakfast, he did not have long to talk and eat before his classes started, with the second term class but he wanted Dumbledore to know that Harry was seeing the Department of Mysteries. Snape knocked on the door after walking up the spirally stairs.

“Come in,” Dumbledore called out. Snape walked inside to see Dumbledore sitting at his desk a dark blue quill in hand.

“Sorry to bother you sir,” Snape said softly.

“No bother at all Severus, how was the first lesson with Harry?”

Snape looked pained as he thought of the disaster the lesson was, “It could have been better. What I did notice is that he seems to be seeing the Department of Mysteries, I am assuming that the Dark Lord is constantly thinking about it so that it is now on Potter’s mind and he was asking what is inside it.”

Dumbledore looked thoughtful as he sat in his chair the quill still in hand.

“Would it be possible for you to see how far he is seeing into the Department of Mysteries? He may not realize yet what he is seeing and why but there may come a time when he does and it would be better if that understanding did not come from Voldermort.”

“I can do that sir, we shall be meeting again on Wednesday.”

“Wonderful, I know he shall learn a lot from you.”

 Snape did answer he found this very unlikely.

“Incidentally did you see the morning Daily Prophet?”

“No sir I have not seen it yet,” Snape told him softly.

“It appears that we’ve had a large break out from Azkaban.”

Snape looked worried as he realized what this meant, “he has gotten ten of his biggest supporters out of there. That is not good at all.”

“Very true, we should head to the Great Hall the others will be showing up soon and will be worried when they learn of this.”

Dumbledore handed the Daily Prophet to Severus who read it over as they walked together to the Great Hall.

“They are blaming Black for this I see,” Snape was not surprised.

Snape was not sure how he was feeling, about this. Dumbledore had continued to defend Sirius as innocent and Pettigrew framed him. But he had not seen Peter around Voldermort at anytime when he went to give him a report. Sirius seemed to feel that Snape disliked him because of the way he had been treated in school, and although that had bothered him for many years it was not the thing that had bothered him the most, it was the thought that this man could be a best friend to someone and then betray them to another so they would be killed. Snape was not surprised that everyone except Umbridge was discussing the news of the outbreak. He knew Umbridge would be trying to let it appear that it was not really there so she could stay safe in the Ministry of Magic.

Snape finished his breakfast and walked to his classroom, he had students this morning so he had limited time to get ready for the morning class.

Snape was not surprised that the students were all eager to talk about the escape Death Eaters. Snape was glad he did not have Fred and George in his class right away, he would not put it past them to ask him uncomfortable questions concerning the Death Eaters, that he knew personally and had at a time been friends with them and still remain on a some what friendly bases with Lucius and Narcissa.

Snape wasn’t surprised when he had made it to dinner that day to learn of Hagrid’s probation, he then realized with Umbridge it was not surprising she hated all half breeds, but he felt sorry for him just the same and it seemed that several students were not to fussed about this, they seemed to feel it was a good thing considering Hagrid’s monster fixation.
