Chapter 107

Severus left for the school that morning after a fast bite to eat and a drink of wine to help settle his aching head. Snape was glad to find him self in front of the gates leading into the school. He walked up quickly to the school, pleased to get away from the old friends he had known and not happy to see them any time soon again.

“Aaah Severus how was your time away?” Dumbledore asked softly as he looked at him with his sparkling blue eyes

“I it was….. Passable, I am glad to be back….” Snape hoped the other teachers who were there would leave.

“I am glad to hear that, there seemed to be quite a bit of excitement at the World Cup, it seems some Death Eaters were running amok and the Dark Mark had appeared over the woods there, causing quite a bit of panic,” Said Dumbledore softly as he watched Snape’s face.

“I had… heard about it.” He replied softly not wanting to give too much away as other teachers wandered by.

“It’s a shame the Death Eaters were able to escape it would have helped the Ministry, a great deal had they caught several of them. At least then they would know for sure who had lied about being imperious and who was acting on their own free will.” Dumbledore watched as the last teacher had wandered off leaving them alone. “I am most pleased you played your part there well other wise it would have gone so very wrong for you”

Snape nodded his head, “yes it would have, so how was your summer, did you make it to the World Cup?”

“No I did not have the time for it, I had stayed here at the school. I was working on accruing a new teacher for the Defense of Dark Arts. I believe the person I have chosen shall work out very fine.”

Snape looked at him with wide eyes, “You have found someone, who is to be the new teacher?”

“Ah you remember my dear old friend, Alastor Moody, also known as Mad-eye Moody, by the kinder ones.” Dumbledore chuckled softly.

Snape looked at him as though he had lost it now. “Why had you brought him out of retirement?”

“Well as you know we shall be hosting the Tri-Wizard Tournament, and with ah less then scruples guest coming here, I had thought it best to have someone here who could help keep an extra eye out on an old friend of yours.”

Snape raised his eyes at him, “An old friend of mine?”

“Yes you remember Igor Karkaroff, he shall be here he is the Headmaster of Durmstrang.”

“I do not consider him a friend.” Snape replied stiffly. “Nor any I had associated with in the past….. As a follower of the Dark Lord.”

“I do not doubt you are well glad to be rid of them, but I am sure that Igor will see you as a friend and fellow Death Eater, it would not do for him to think other wise, while he is here. I would not be happy for him to report to other fellows that you are not true to Voldermort.”

Snape nodded curtly. He knew his past friend was a turncoat.

“I shall play my part well and leave him with the impression that I have never switched sides.” Snape said softly as the two walked to the headmaster’s office.

Dumbledore smiled happily at him, “I know you shall, and I am most pleased with your performance, you have done well to keep your true feelings hidden from other Death Eaters who have escape imprisonment.”

“It is not hard, most of them have not learned how to penetrate the mind nor close their own thoughts to others. I shall be glad to report to you anything with Igor while he is staying here with us.” Snape said softly as they walked into the office. Snape sat down on the chair while Dumbledore went to the cabinet and brought out two glasses and a large green bottle.
