Chapter  91 Halloween Blues

It was Halloween morning, Severus lay in his bed wondering if anyone would notice if he did not appear for meals. Snape sighed as he remembered eleven years ago how he had learned that Lily’s friend, and the best man at her wedding had sold her out to Voldermort, and she was now gone from his life, far from his reach and no chance of him ever winning her love back from James Potter, the man he hated as much as he hated Sirius Black. The man he had vowed to kill if ever given the chance. Snape knew the chances were nil since Black was now in Azkaban serving a life sentence although he had yet to die from his stint there. He would not be sorry when the man did die.

“I wish I had known who the traitor was Lily, I’d have killed him before he ever got near the Dark Lord.” Snape whispered.

“It’s too bad you didn’t know then we’d still be alive and celebrating Halloween and been with Harry as he started up in school and maybe even have other children.” Lily sighed as she looked sadly at Snape lying on his bed.

“I love you Lily Evans, I miss you still. I can’t believe how hard it is to not have you with me. I do hope you can hear me though and in some small way you’re here.” He rolled off the bed feeling his heart aching with a longing that was not being fulfilled.

Severus dressed slowly for the day. Lily’s spirit whistled at his naked body. At this time James walked in and groaned.

“Ah Lily, warn me before I come in here.” James walked over to her wrapping his arms around her waist.

“Sorry but I didn’t realize you were going to come in here.” Lily told him with a giggle. She wrapped her arms around his neck kissing him passionately.

The two followed him out his door and to the Great Hall where Harry was already sitting and eating breakfast.

The day in Snape’s opinion had dragged on and seemed to come to no end, for him. It was now time for dinner and he was sitting at the teachers table eating dinner when he noticed that among all the Gryffindor students all eating, talking and tossing some popcorn at each other that Harry, Hermione and Ron were not among them.

Severus found this odd since this was one of the times most kids looked forward to since there was more candy and other sweets then usual for the Halloween celebration. Snape did not eat candy; he had quite lost his desire for it after he had seen Lily buy some candy at Honeydukes for James.

As dinner ended and the students were all milling about as they slowly made their way to their common rooms Severus walked with Minerva and Dumbledore toward the teachers lounge when they heard a loud commotion not far down the hall. Severus recognized the voice it was Filch but there was more to it then that it seemed that a lot of students were also talking very excitably as they neared the disturbance. Snape shot a dirty look to Lockhart who came bustling up quickly to walk beside Dumbledore.

“Pompous ass,” Snape grumbled under his breath. He thought that Minerva chuckled at his words. They reached the place where it seemed Filch was ready to attack Harry and his friends. Snape then noticed the scrawny dust color cat hanging by its tail on a torch bracket.

Snape listen while Dumbledore asked Harry, Hermione and Ron to come with him and Lockhart offered his office for Dumbledore to use. Snape still felt a strong desire to knock Lockhart’s teeth out for him. He wanted to see the arrogant fool win some stupid smile award after that.

He followed after the rest into the office where the many… too many pictures of the man started to hurry out of sight with hairnets and curlers in their hair.

It figures, ugh this guys revolting. Snape thought as he stood in the shadows the better to listen to others but not be seen until you were ready for them to see you.
