Chapter 32: New Feelings

After the events that had happened earlier that day, Dick asked his fathers if it was alright for his friend to stay the night at their home. They gladly agreed, and the children went to bed. It was almost midnight, now. Garfield sighed as he was laying beside Dick, face growing warm. He tilted his head as the freckled face boy did not have a cheeful smile on his face unlike himself. It was unlike the slightly older boy to remain silent and expressionless. He was always in a cheerful mood. Then again, ever since the accident between he and the Scarecrow, he could understand why the boy was disturbingly silent.

Then, out of no where, Dick began to smile at Garfield. He giggled softly, scooting himself closer to the green boy. He tilted his head at the freckled face boy, smiling softly. He was a little confused as to why the boy was frowning several moments ago. But then, a small voice startled him.

"I was really afraid. I thought that weird poison was going to kill you! But, luckily, it didn't." He wrapped his arms around the younger boy and nuzzled into his neck. Garfield hugged him back, sighing softly as he burried his face into the crook of Dick's neck. Their faces grew warm at this. It was queer-like to make these actions. However, Garfield enjoyed it very much. He loved his friend more than anything. And, of course, the shape-shifting boy would do anything to be sure that he was alright and away from harm. What Garfield did not know was that Dick felt the same way. If Scarecrow was still alive, he would talk to him first. If that did not work, he would beat him up. But since the Scarecrow was gone for good, he could not do such a thing.

Dick smiled, cupping Garfield's cheeks, rubbing them gently with his thumbs. This made the green boy turn red, blush ran across his face and ears as fast as a cheetah. His heart pounded hard into his rib cage.

"You're so cute," said Dick softly. He smiled happily, his own face turning red. Garfield smiled and began to purr silently. Dick noticed this and giggled softly. He then tilted his little head slightly as the green boy leaned his head against Dick's chest. The green boy's ears could hear the other's heart beats. Oh!- how they beat against his ear like drums. Garfield looked at Dick, smiling happily.
"Your heart is beating so quickly!" He exclaimed happily with a smile. "It's like a drum."

Dick blushed and nodded, petting his soft, dark greeb hair gently. His black, beady eyes starred down at Garfield's dark violet. The two stayed like that for a few moments.

Unexpectedly, Dick leaned down and kissed the green boy's forehead gently. Garfield blushed bright red, burrying his face into the freckled face boy's shirt. He giggled at the sight of the other and nuzzled into his dark green hair. It smelled like roses in a spring field. Garfield sighed softly, slowly falling asleep. He didn't know if he should tell the sidekick his true feelings. Perhaps, he felt the same way? He did not know for certain.

Dick smiled and pulled Garfield back slightly, their noses so close to touching. The freckled face boy had shyness in his black, beady eyes as he wanted to feel the green boy's lips on his own.

Then, after a moment of silence, Dick slowly leaned closer. He could feel Garfield's breath on his lips as he went closer amd closer to the other. They were so close, and yet, so far.

Suddenly, Garfield smiled and closed his eyes, kissing Dick's soft, pink lips gently with passion. The freckled face boy's eyes widened, but then, they fluttered slowly closed. He kissed the green boy back as sparks flashed inside his mind. They were so young, and yet, so in love!

They pulled away, Garfield studdered and whimpered very nervously. He began to apologize, but Dick cut him off. "I love you, Garfield," he said softly into his ear. The green boy blushed even more, blinking rapidly. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Did Joker have the same reaction?

Garfield smiled, cuddling closer to Dick and yawned softly. The two began to fall asleep. The green boy murmured, "I love you too," and fell asleep in the sidekick's arms, dreaming peacefully of puppies and flowers.
