Batman sighed heavily as he made his way towards the abandoned warehouse, glancing over at the directions that the clown left on the small sticky note. He wondered why he had left, especially this early. He yawned as he made it to a blocked off area. Beyond it lied a large warehouse that had a broken window. He groaned loudly as he jumped from box to box. He almost fell, but regained his balance successfully.

Landing on the dead grass, Batman stretched and headed towards the warehouse, seeing many fireworks placed in front of the old building. He walked inside, seeing the Joker who was facing the grey wall. His face was flat and filled with irritation.

The Dark Knight walked over to the clown, who was fully aware of the hero being in his presence. He smiled weakily, turning around to face the hero. "Hey, Bats. How did you rest?"

"Fine?" Batman said in a questionable tone. "Care to explain why you wanted me to come here?"

Joker nodded and grabbed Batman's hand as they began to walk out of the warehouse. He lead the man in black to another abandoned building, walking up the stairs quickly. They made it to the roof of the building, the clown giggled softly. He then grabbed a small, silver button and giggled even more at the Dark Knight, making him confused.
"I was setting up a little surprise for you!"

"Isn't setting off fireworks illegal?" Batman asked, raising an eyebrow questionably.

Joker nodded and smiled. His thumb rubbed over the silver button and grinned. "I know, but since when did I do anything by law? Besides, I'll be in trouble. Then again, this place is pretty much abandoned. No one's here! Just you and me," he purred as he chuckled, hugging the man in black's arm gently.

The Dark Knight sighed and nodded, "alright. Let's see this 'surprise' of your's."

Joker nodded and hit the silver button hard, setting off several fireworks. They were green and yellow, sparks trailed off of the rockets as they exploded into the air. The fireworks exploded beside the sunset sky as they melted into the horizon, creating a stunning painting-like portrait.

When the firework show was finished, Batman smiled at Joker, hugging his waist. The clown giggled as he received a small kisses on the cheek. Joker smiled softly as he kissed his love on the lips.

"That was good," said Batman, smirking at the clown happily. They watched as the sparks subsided into nothingness. "Is that all?"

"Well," Joker said silently. "No. Robin and that cute little friend of his are a thing, now. He wanted me to tell you."

"Oh? That doesn't surprise me. I'm very proud of him. We should reward them. Did he tell you how he did it?"

"Yeah! They kissed. That was all," the pale man said happily. Batman hummed softly to the clown as he burried his face into his green hair. Of course he was happy. His son had grown up and made a new friend. Not to mention, new lover.
"Reminds me of us," said Batman, kissing the top of his head.

Joker purred softly, his smile began to fade slowly. The Dark Knight noticed this, removing his head and cupping the clown's cheeks. He could tell that he was sad. His eyes said all. They were like emeralds to the man in black. See-through emeralds that you could tell what lied beneath the surface with a piercing telescope.

"Is something the matter, J-bird?" He asked, tilting his head slightly. "You seemed so happy before. Are you okay?"

Joker waited for a moment and gave a faint smile of assurance, "yes, dear. Just in thought. I'll tell you if I need anything."

Batman gave a low sigh and kissed his nose gently. He was worried about the clown. It was not like him to not be so giddy after an explosion. Not to mention that it was his own explosion.

"Why don't we go back to the manor?" Joker asked silently. "I bet they're wondering where we are."

"Alright."

The two began to head back to the manor through the secret tunnels with hand in hand. Batman was amazed. He did not think that the Joker, of all people, would make such a complicated system. It was unlikely. But, the man in black loved it.

"In case of emergencies or if I just want to get around without being seen, I made these tunnels with a lot of help from my friends. Croc and Clay Face cleared all of the dirt while the rest of us cleared and paved the dirt into a cement-like flooring," Joker explained, smiling proudly. "It took us many years to compete, but we did it!"

"Impressive," Batman said as they went out of the long tunnel, walking up to get out of it. A mailman had just left the Wayne Manor, the flag on the mailbox raised upwards. The clown tilted his head as his beloved opened it slowly and pulled out a fancy envelope. It was a light lilac color and had a red, stamped button at the very end of the folding with a red ribbion dangling out of it. The Dark Knight pulled out the letter and read it aloud:

"Dear-eh-Mister Bat, you and three guests have been invited to the annual Glass Ball Dance. You may bring whoever you wish. Doors open at the end of September, on the 30th in the late evening. Don't be late. We will be expecting you.
Sincerely, Barbra Gordon, Commissioner of Gotham City."

"Sounds fancy," said Joker, looking down at the pavement. His tongue grazed over his sharp teeth, not sure what to say. He knew that the man in black would never invite him to something like that.

"I'm bringing you. We just need you to stay hidden. I'm sure Garfield and Robin can keep an eye on you," Batman said with a soft smile as he caressed the clown's cheek.

Joker gasped, covering his mouth. His acid green eyes fluttered with disbelief. "But, what if I get caught? How will we explain?"

"Don't worry. Let me handle it, okay? Besides," he turned to face the door. "We have until tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?! It's the 29th?!"

Batman nodded and said with a laugh, "I know that the author forgot to put that small pinch of detail in, but don't worry. We'll make the best of the night. And maybe, I can use this as an opportunity to tell the commissioner about us."

"Do you think she'll approve and not tell anyone?"

"Can't say for certain. Just, stay calm, okay?" Batman said, receiving a small nod from his lovely little clown. He gave a small kiss on the lips, humming softly. The clown returned it, wrapping his arms around his neck. They released and chuckled to each other silently, their eyes filled with pure love and affection.

The caped crusader opened the door, greeted by his butler and smiled as the two said their 'hello's' as he shut the door slowly. He winked at the two children, who had just overheard the conversation. They giggled to themselves as they smirked. Tomorrow night would be a good night.
