"Okay, Padre! I got to go to school, now!" Said Dick, getting out of his superhero costume into a brown long-sleeved shirt, some blue jeans, and, of course, his iconic large glasses. He dashed over to get his Super Mario backpack and giggled. Today was his official first day of Middle School. And what made this day even better was that he wasn't an orphan anymore! So now, he doesn't have to go back to the orphanage anymore, since he was adopted and all.

Alfred packed the 12 year-old boy a small lunch. It consisted of a turkey club sandwich, a grape juice pouch, and an apple. He smiled as Dick ran downstairs and went into the kitchen. He had the biggest smile on his little freckled face. Of course, a child like Dick should be happy. The first day of school was always exciting for children his age. Especially in a new school filled with more children that he could befriend and play with during recess. Alfred looked at the tiled kitchen island and took a deep breath and exhaled. He remembered when Bruce was his age; how excited he was to go to the Middle School for the first time. That smile on the little boy's face made the butler smile happily, giving the freshly made lunch to Bruce and off he went. But then he remembered that one Friday, in which, a few of the boy's fellow classmates made fun of his parent's death. How rotten and cold they were to him; saying that 'they never loved him' or to 'stop crying' at their harsh words. The butler remembered that wet, tear-stained face when Bruce returned home. Oh, how he sobbed and yelled into Alfred's chest. It was so heartbreaking for him. But, the butler would comfort the boy. He would tell him that the mean children were wrong and that his parents loved him very much. That always made Bruce feel better whenever he thought of negative thoughts. Then, Alfred would go to the Middle School with Bruce holding his hand and confronting both the teacher and the principle for not doing a single thing during this cruel act of bullying. He would be satisfied to hear that the children, who had hurt the small orphan boy, would be suspended for their acts. After words, the butler treated Bruce to some ice cream. He would normally get a small one scooped cone, while the small boy would get a two scooped cone. He would chuckle at how large the cone was and how the orphaned boy would try to eat it. It was adorable.

The butler hummed softly. He was a tad-bit worried for Dick. He wondered if the children in this school would harm the small 12 year-old boy. If so, how would they harm him? His thoughts were interrupted as he looked to one of the island corners, hearing a small giggle. Dick smiled at Alfred as he watched the butler place the food items into his zebra-stripped lunch box. He turned to Dick and chuckled as he hid under the island and made a small sound. He rolled his eyes as he put the last of the items into dick's lunch box. "My, it would be a shame if someone were to eat all of this. Perhaps, this lunch is mine?"

"No!" Dick exclaimed and giggled as he came out of his hiding spot. The butler chuckled at the small boy as he tried to get his lunch. He gave the freckled face boy his lunch and watched as he put it into his bag carefully. "Thank you for making my lunch, Grandpa! Maybe next time, I can make my own."

"Perhaps," the butler said. "Maybe when you return home, we can make something together for your lunch for tomorrow."

"Yeah!" Dick agreed happily as he zipped up his bag all of the way. "I would like to do that!" He then smiled as he put on the backpack and looked at Alfred and giggled. "I wonder how many friends I'm gonna make! Maybe, a lot."

"Knowing how nice you are, perhaps the whole school," Alfred said as he watched Dick go to the island again. The two heard incoming footsteps and saw that it was Bruce without his Batman mask. He wore a long-sleeved checkered shirt and some denim blue jeans. Alfred had a very confused look upon his face as he glanced at the Dark Knight. "Why aren't you wearing your mask, Master Bruce?"

Bruce sighed as Dick grabbed his hand, a smile forming on his face. He looked at Alfred and shrugged. "So that Batman isn't seen walking his son to school." Dick giggled and looked up at his father and smiled. "Besides, I wanted to walk with him to school. It's only three blocks away."
