It was finally time to celebrate the first year of being a pre-teen. All children should be excited to spend some quality time with their friends and familys. However, Dick was not in a very cheery mood. He was worried sick about his father, even though Alfred said that he would get better by the end of the week. It was Thursday, so he hoped that his beloved Padre would awake one Friday, if not, Saturday.

Tears began to fall onto his glasses' lens as he held them his his hands. He missed his father so much. How was a child supposed to be happy about their thirteenth birthday if his or her father or mother was ill and motionless? The sidekick was depressed about the whole situation.

There he was; Dick sat alone in his dark, unlit room as he thought about his father and his Papa. He wondered how Joker was taking this situation. Probably a lot better than he was. Glancing down at the lens', he wiped the tears that were on them gently with the bottom of his shirt. He missed his father so much. Until his father awoke, Dick would still feel emotionless and alone, even if he was surrounded by a bunch of people.

Alfred slowly opened the door and saw that the freckled face boy was crying slightly. He went inside and shut the door behind him, waking up to the young boy slowly. Once beside him, the butler sat next to Dick and took away his glasses and put them on his bed dresser. He then wrapped his arms around the other's body and let the boy cry into his chest. Alfred gave soft, gentle cooes of reassurance, but they would be surpassed by negativity. He sighed softly and let the poor boy cry harder.
"I know, Dick. I know. It's going to be alright. I know that master Bruce will be alright, and I know that you want him to be awake. But, you must-"

"I don't want to wait, Grandpa!" Dick exclaimed through more sobs. "I miss him so, so much. You say that it's going to be okay, but it won't be okay! I have been sad-"

"Depressed."

"Fine- depressed because of what happened to Padre! I told Papa that everything is going to be okay, but I'm lying to him! I-I'm lying to myself!" Dick exclained through more painful sobs. He looked at the butler and sniffled, followed by a loud hick sound.

Alfred sighed and rubbed Dick's back, "easy, master Dick. I know it's hard for you. But, do you realize that you are correct about your father being okay? He will be alright. You aren't lying to mister Joker, nor yourself. You are speaking the truth." He watched as Dick began to calm down and hugged the butler back tightly. Alfred gave a soft peck on Dick's forehead and sighed softly as they continued to hug each other for a while.
