"What do you think, boss? Should we go with plan B?" Asked Penguin as he called the clown on the telephone, turning to Riddler. It had been three days since they had almost took out Barbra Gordon. They knew that Joker hated her with a burning pation, and they didn't blame him at all.
"Not yet. Well, I mean, we could do it soon like tonight at midnight, but I'm not so sure," Joker said, checking if anyone was still doing their usual things, which they were. He sighed and went back to his bed, cracking his knuckles slightly. From his suit pocket, he pulled out several blue papers that had designs on them. He chuckled at one, which was a mini Eiffel tower-like hypnotizer. The clown remembered that Riddler had requested one of these hypnotizers before in the past. And since the Joker was the Joker, he didn't pass an opportunity to use it again. But then, he remembered what had happened last time between him and the Scarecrow.
Scarecrow: the one who had killed himself. Scarecrow: the one who almost killed Joker and Batman more times than you can say, 'Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Batman'. Scarecrow: the one who betrayed Joker.
"You okay, boss? You're on mute," Riddler said softly, turning to Penguin, who was now in his lap. He knew about Scarecrow and his apparent suicide. It must have been difficult for the clown to trust a villain again, other than Harley Quinn. Such a shame.
Joker snapped out his thoughts and shook his head slightly. He looked at the designs on the blue papers and sighed shakily.
"Yeah, Rid. I think I'll be okay."
Penguin kissed Riddler's chin and snatched the phone from him. He smiled in triumph and asked, "is it about Scarecrow again?"
"Y-yes, Penguin. It is about Scarecrow. I just can't seem to get him and Gordon out of my mind! It's so difficult!" Joker exclaimed as he began to tear up. "I feel so bad for Robin and Beast Boy. But, mostly Beast Boy. The poor thing."
Penguin looked at Riddler and shook his mead, mouthing, 'Scarecrow'. Riddler growled and bit the inside of his cheek, grabbing at the phone and shaking his head.
"Listen, boss. We know it's hard. Trust me, Peng and I know! But, you gotta move on. Unless you wanna be unsuccessful with this brilliant plan o' yours, I suggest you to just focus on the plot of the story! I mean, seriously! This is getting richer and richer every second."
"I know, Rid. But, it's just so hard! Have you ever lost someone or been betrayed before by multiple villains? It gets painful. And now with little miss fill-in-the-blank trying to steal my Batsy, I don't know if I can go on like this much longer. I'll get even madder if I keep going!" Joker exclaimed a little louder, tears falling down his cheeks. Never did the Clown Prince of Crime feel so pressured in his entire life. But, because of Scarecrow and his betrayal, it had been difficult to trust villains again. Joker knew that Riddler and Penguin couldn't betray him. They have known each other since the sixties and they never left his side. It was nice to have frenemies like them to have around for comfort.
"We know, Jokester," Riddler said softly. "And, we understand that he's left a scar on ya'. But, you gotta move on! Otherwise, you'll end up depressed and even more stressed out about unusual things. Know what I mean, boss?"
Joker sighed and nodded to himself. He couldn't stay scared of a little plan that had a hypnotizer in it. Riddler was right: he had to move on.
"Yes. Thanks."
"Yeah, no prob." Once they hung up, Riddler chuckled and kissed Penguin's lips gently and let out a small hum. Two more days until Boy Wonder's birthday. They were aware of it since Joker told them. It had something to do with the plan B.
The clown called it, 'operation: birthday'.
