The air smelt like a poisonous gas, filled with a nerve racking silence. Everything was dark and dreary, making the scene seem like a scene from the Walking Dead, minus the zombies. Rubbish from the building filled the room and small portions of dust filled the air with lung killing oxygen.
Cutting through the silence like an axe to a tree, Batman was tossing large pieces of broken wood left to right, trying to find an exit. The clown was still resting, his wounds slowly healing. He gave a low, irritated grown as the other tried to make an escape route. Of course, in this situation, who wouldn't be doing the same thing? But, because of the loud noise, the villain began to get annoyed by the hero and got up from his spot on the table.
Right on cue, the caped crusader heard the clown move and turned around, facing him with a serious look. He walked towards Joker and shook his head, raising an eyebrow. Batman knew that the clown would become irritated with his racket. But, they needed to escape before something horrible happened. And since Robin's birthday was in two days, he didn't want that to happen.
Joker sighed as he got up, limping over to the man in black slowly. He grabbed onto his left arm and hugged it close to his chest, giving a low sigh. Batman tried to move over to the area he was working on, but the pale man stopped him.
"You should take a break. Hate to say it, but you've been working on that thing for ages!"
"So?" Batman said flatly, giving a small growl to the other. "I just want to get us out of here. None of this would have happened if you didn't do that stupid plan of yours."
Not believing what the other had said, he gave a dramatic gasp, jaw dropping down to the floor. The clown's eyebrows began to narrow downwards, anger raging through his body like a giant hurricane. He let go of the caped crusader and glared at him.
"Stupid?! I'll have you know that my plans are amazing and were thought through thoroughly! Besides, that oversized laughing gas grenade backfired majorly. I didn't expect that to happen at all."
"What was your 'genius' plan supposed to be, anyway? Probably something dumb!"
"I'll have you know that I was going to take over Gotham for our son! I wanted to do something special for him and, of course, I wanted him to be the king of Gotham city! It was the only thing I could think of!" Joker exclaimed, tears beginning to form in the corners of his eyes. His hands turned into fists as he got even angrier.
Batman growled at the other, glaring at the clown hard into his eyes. Of course, he knew that Joker meant well. The man in black knew that he always did mean well. However, he didn't want his son, his cinnamon roll, his everything, to become corrupted. That would be devastating.
"King of Gotham? Are you out of your mind?! You would have corrupted him! How does setting off a laughing gas grenade thingy make him the king of Gotham?! Honestly, you should have just left him be. He wouldn't care about gifts, anyway!"
"Do you think that I don't care, Bruce?!" Joker asked in a loud scream, tears falling down his pale cheeks and dripped down his chin. He felt hurt and slapped in the face by the other. How could he say such a thing?
"I love Robin! You, of all people, should know that! I promised you that I would never, ever corrupt him! Robin is too innocent for villainary schemes like mine! I just wanted him to have fun. That's all I wanted to do! But what do I get; a big ol' slap in the face!"
Finally, Joker broke down and began to sob hard, going back to the table and sitting on it once again. His tears were like raindrops in a thunderstorm. Rage and sadness filled his mind like a war in his head. It was almost unbearable for the clown.
Batman gasped as he watched the clown sob hard. His heart began to sting in pain at the horrible sight. He knew that Joker cared and that he wanted the best for Robin. But the way that he made this 'surprise' ended up in a huge disaster. And now, he didn't know if he or the clown were going to survive in the basement. At least it was better than above ground.
The caped crusader walked over to the clown's side and tried to grab his hand, but faught the urge and didn't. Tears began to form in his blue eyes as he remembered how he treated Joker before with the whole 'Gordon Ramsay' situation. He felt so horrible and guilty. The beloved and iconic clown must think that he was he worst fiance in all of existence.
"Joker, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you. You just wanted Robin to have fun. And instead of comforting you, I hurt you again. I just want us to get out of here. I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I'm the worst boyfriend ever."
Joker turned to Batman and furrowed his eyebrows into a U-shape as his acid green eyes met the Dark Knight's blue pair. He smiled and gestured him to come towards him. The other didnt at first, but then obliged. The clown wrapped his arms around Batman's waist and calmed down, letting the Dark Knight cry on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry, too, dear. I should have known Robin better like that. But, let's focus on escaping now. What do you say?"
Batman nodded and calmed down fully, smiling at the clown softly. Suddenly, Joker began to groan in pain. Panic rushed through the man in black's mind as he held the other close.
"My hip hurts really bad," Joker said through shaky breathes. "I think I broke something. I really am getting old!"
Batman picked up the clown and began to head to the kitchen to look for something. Grabbing a bottle of painkillers and a water bottle from the fridge, he ran back to the whimpering clown faster than the Flash on a good day. He gave the clown two painkillers and the water, letting him take the medicine quickly. Of course, the villain drank the water including the pills instantly in one large gulp. Almost immediately, the pain began to escape the clown's body. He kissed the Dark Knight's cheek gently, smiling softly at him. Shortly after, they then began to brainstorm an idea on how to escape.
But, just when they were about to set it in stone, a certain, highly disliked, character arrived on the spot.
