Everyone experiences sleep paralysis differently, so I am not writing this on behalf of everyone's issue.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Sleep paralysis was a waking nightmare that was genuinely horrifying for you and anyone else who had to deal with with issue at hand. Usually, an episode lasted a minute or two, but the hell seemed to last for hours. It was like being aware that you were conscious but moving and talking was impossible. The only sounds that would come out at most were faint whines. If you tried to scream, the loudest it would come out would be a shortened whimper. On occasion, you'd hallucinate with it and sometimes see shadowy figures peering over you. This didn't calm your anxiety whatsoever. Most people had their eyes closed whenever the paralysis attacked them, but your eyes were wide open as though you were lucid dreaming.
Your boyfriend, Todomatsu, first noticed this when he woke one night after having a rather odd dream. He noticed your eyes were wide open and held a horrified look to them. He took note that you weren't moving and didn't reply to him when he called out to you. He'd heard about similar things from his third eldest brother and immediately recognized it as what seemed to be sleep paralysis. Todomatsu was correct with his assumption.
When he first spotted the paralysis, he had absolutely no idea what to do to calm you. The look your face held made you look like you were suffering, which you indeed were. It luckily lasted about two and a half minutes, so it ended rather fast to him. You then flinched awake, crying and shaking all while leaving Todomatsu concerned. The man ended up asking Doctor Dekapan about it and he took his advice into consideration.
"If you witness the paralysis in action, sing softly to her and caress her face or hands. If you only notice when she wakes up, comfort her and let her talk it out. She will be horrified, so expect shaking and crying."
And that he did.
After that, he rarely awoke while you were in the middle of a paralysis attack and tonight was one of those nights.
There you were, panicking in the middle of the night, feeling as though the air around you was getting thicker and tighter. Oh how you wanted to reach up and grasp onto something to steady yourself for calmness. Your breathing was short and irregular, eyes wide open. You saw Todomatsu in your peripherals fast asleep and you felt envy. It was like you woke up dead, as though your mind was awake but your body was not and you were trapped within yourself. It wasn't even relatively close to that of a "horrible nightmare" and it was far more complicated and twisted than such a suggestion. The fact that you couldn't move or help yourself brought such great amounts of anxiety and fear, causing you to panic and fear your surroundings. For a fact, you knew there was an undeniably strange and malicious presence in your room. That definitely didn't lower your fear and instead made it more threatening. You felt as though there was a pressure on your chest, like someone was sitting down on it while refusing to remove themselves from you. You tried to focus on your senses to calm you down, though it caused you to overthink and panic more than you had been. The only thing you could see was the faint outlines of objects in your room thanks to the small night light you had plugged in. All you could hear was the deafening lack of sound, the presence of nothingness. Your mouth, you noticed, held the disgusting taste of iron and bile. All you felt on your body was the tightness and pressure of something unknown and the softness of your sheets, such opposing feelings. The only real comforting thing was the smell of your boyfriend's shampoo beside you since he used the scent of vanilla honey.
I want to wake up.
Please... Let me wake up.
I need to wake up.
You looked back over at your boyfriend and attempted to scream out his name to wake him up, only to let out a small whimper. Praying was all you could do in hopes that some kind of demon wouldn't pop up in your room as usual. It was rather rare for one to actually show up, but when it did, it was made one of the most frightening episodes of sleep paralysis you'd had. Oh goodness, those episodes were horrid and the very thought of what you'd once experienced spooked you. The gruff and ragged breathing along with the haunting darkness of the creature made existing in the moment unbearable.
I need to get out of here.
You blinked in hopes of waking yourself up though you knew it wasn't that simple. That, unfortunately, was when everything took a turn for the worse. You began to hear raspy breathing from someone other than yourself and Todomatsu. Whether it was your imagination or actually someone breathing, you did not know, but you hoped it would stop. You began to see the creature from before in all their glory, causing you to internally scream at the top of your lungs. They seemed to hold a haunting smile and all you wanted to do was escape from the endless hell you were in, but you couldn't on your own. You couldn't force it. Your body would wake up on it's own.
Lucky for you, it did.
I'm awake.
You took a deep breath and clutched the sheets you weren't able to grasp before. You positioned yourself differently so that you weren't laying down. Now sitting straight up in the bed, you realized you were shaking and tears were streaming down your face. A small hiccup left your mouth and you immediately covered your face, trying to block out any more sounds as to not wake your boyfriend. He looked so serene in his sleep and interrupting that would seem so rude and cruel.
Another hiccup.
You eyed him, making sure he wasn't waking up from the sound. The bed you sat on was pressed against the wall, you unfortunately being on the wall's side, meaning you'd have to crawl over Todomatsu to get out of bed. He was a fairly light sleeper, so too much movement would cause his waking. So, you sat there and sobbed to yourself as quietly as you could.
You didn't even notice Todomatsu stirring in his sleep. He yawned and looked over you, eyes going wide and flinching when he spotted you curled up crying in the darkest corner at the end of the bed. Quickly, he pounced out of his covers and made his way over to you, holding your quivering form to his.
"Shhh..... It's going to be alright. I promise...!" He moved you into his lap, rubbing his hand over your back in an up and down motion.
Todomatsu thought back to what Dekapan had said about comforting you and letting you talk it out. Using his other hand, he led your head to his shoulder where it would rest as you cried. His cheek rest on the top of your head and his fingers were now intertwined with yours, thumbs grazing your knuckles.
"Was it the same thing again?" He questioned after a few minutes of silence.
Your crying had died down a bit. In reply, you nodded into his shoulder.
"I'm sorry, (y/n)..." He pressed a kiss to the top of your head. "One day, it will all stop. I promise that."
He soon heard light snoring, signaling that you were now in a peaceful state of sleep. The man smiled to himself and laid down on the bed, dragging you with him to where you rest on top of his body. He was impressed with how quick you recovered from the fear, only taking about 10 minutes to calm you down. Though, he wasn't against it and instead was grateful that you were able to relax that fast. Looking down, he pressed another kiss to your sleeping form, closing his eyes after.
"Sweet dreams, (y/n)...!"
