Day 653
Sunday 10th June 2018
I got a bit of a fright today but I'm OK now.
Tara, Esther and Mike went out looking for TJ and Trudy today. They came back with a few more supplies but without TJ and Trudy.
In the morning Tara sat all of us (excluding Janine, obviously) round the kitchen table to talk about TJ and Trudy and getting to The Base. "I know this is a difficult question to answer," said Tara. "It's not to do with capital cities is it?" asked Auntie Meryl, interrupting Tara, "Because my geography is rubbish." "We need to think about how long we're going to look for TJ and Trudy," said Tara. "Who?" asked a confused Auntie Meryl. "I know it's not a comfortable subject," said Tara, ignoring Auntie Meryl, "But we can't search for Trudy and TJ forever." "Search for who?" asked a frustrated Auntie Meryl, as she looked at me, "What's she talking about? Trudy and who?" "TJ," I said. "What does she want a DJ for?" asked Auntie Meryl, "Now's not the time to be having a party." "We can't just leave TJ and Trudy out there," said Mike. "I know," said Tara, "But our success rate of finding those who get separated from us isn't exactly high is it?" "The group's getting smaller and smaller," I said, "I don't like it." "I know Luke," said Tara, "But frankly I've been trying get to The Base for months and I don't like that. I'm sick to death of all the drama that keeps coming up that stops me from being with my boyfriend. I say we look for TJ and Trudy for a few more days and if we don't find them, we head to The Base. Are we all agreed?" "I don't like the idea of taking Trudy's kids to The Base without her," said Dotty. "They'd be better off at The Base with us rather than here with Janine," I said, "Actually, that's another problem we have to sort out." "That's not a problem," said Tara, "We just ignore her, speak to her only when we have to and when we go to The Base, we leave her here." Dotty squirmed. She looked uncomfortable with the idea. "Don't look like that, Dotty," said Tara, "After what Janine did to us she's lucky to still be breathing. We are leaving her here and that's final." "She might cause us some trouble," I said. "Well we'd better be ready for it then hadn't we?" said Tara, "Come on. If we're going out to look for Trudy and TJ we'd better get ready." Tara looked at me and smiled. "B*tch face can stay here with you," she said. "You're leaving her here with me?" I said, sounding surprised and annoyed. "We had the f*cker yesterday," said Esther, "Today it's your turn." "Great," I sarcastically said, rolling my eyes. "Come on Luke you'll be alright," said Tara. "Will I?" I says, "I'm not a secret superhero you know? She could try anything. Do I look like Clark Kent?" "Oh I love him," said Auntie Meryl, "He was smashing in 'Gone with the Wind.'" "That was Clark Gable, Auntie Meryl," I said. "What was?" Auntie Meryl. "The guy who was in Gone with the Wind," I said. "You've got wind?" asked Auntie Meryl, "Well what do you want me to do about it?" "GONE with the Wind," I loudly said. "What ARE you talking about?" asked an annoyed Auntie Meryl. "The film, 'Gone with the Wind'!" I loudly said. "What you talking about that for?" asked Auntie Meryl. "Oh give me strength," I said, impatiently rolling my eyes. "That's a good film though," said Auntie Meryl, "What was that women called who was in it?" "Look, we need to make a move," said Tara, "Luke you'll be fine here on your own." "Janine won't cause any trouble," said Dotty. "What if she does?" I asked. "Miss Scarlet?" said Auntie Meryl, "was that what she was called?" "Luke," said Tara, "You punched Janine in the face as soon as we got here. I think you can take care of yourself." "Exactly," said Esther, "She knows most of us are p*ssed off with her being here. She'd be stupid to try anything." "No, she was in Cluedo," said Auntie Meryl. "Don't worry Luke," said Mike, "If she tries anything I'll just come back and slit her throat." "Scarlet O'Hara," said Auntie Meryl, "That was it." "I just don't like being around her on my own," I said. "Who? Scarlet O'Hara?" Auntie Meryl asked. "Christ will you shut up about frigging Scarlet O'Hara," I snapped at Auntie Meryl. "Don't you talk to me like that," said a firm Auntie Meryl, "Or I'll put you across my knee." I do love Auntie Meryl but she could test the patience of a nun.
In the afternoon while the others were out searching, I was stood on the back porch when Janine appeared. "Dotty tells me you're all planning on leaving me here," she said. "That's right," I bluntly said, "You didn't think you were coming with us did you?" "Luke, I'm all on my own now," said Janine. I dismissively shrugged my shoulders in response. Janine frowned. She didn't look happy. "Dotty tells me you're scared of me," she said. "What?" I said in frustrated disbelief. "She said you didn't like being left alone with me," said Janine. "I don't," I bluntly said, "But that's not because I'm scared of you; it's because I can't stand to be around you, you conceited arsehole." "Luke, we just need to make the best of this," said Janine, "You walking around here with a face like a slapped arse isn't going to help." "You mean it isn't going to help you," I bluntly said, "Well believe it or not Janine I'm not interested in helping you. You weren't interested in helping us when you locked us underground." "Luke, you and your mates aren't totally blameless you know?" said Janine, "Have you forgotten what you did? You're hardly a bunch of girl guides." "F*ck ff," I angrily snapped, "Everything we did was in defence to your attacks and disgusting treatment of us. We might not be a bunch of girl guides but we're a million miles away from a bunch of psychopathic nutters like you and your lot." "My lot are all dead," said Janine. "Good," I snapped, "It's a shame you didn't die with them. No one wants you here Janine. Why don't you just f*ck off." At that very moment I felt a hard thud in my back and I was pushed to the ground. The next thing I knew I had an infected man rolling around on top of me viciously snarling, vigorously clawing at me and violently trying to bit chunks out of my face. It took all my strength to keep the hideous undead aggressor at arm's length. The left side of the infected man's face looked like it had been hit hard with a shovel. His left eye was dangling out of his socket and hitting me in the face as blood dribbled out of his mouth and trickled down my cheeks. I was absolutely terrified – more so than usual. I haven't seen any infected in ages and I wasn't prepared for this. I'm still building my strength up. My breathing went out of control, my body was pumped with adrenaline and I started to shout for help as I continued to panic. As I struggled to keep the infected f*cker at bay, Janine quickly straddled the back of the infected man, took a firm grip of his head with both hands, rapidly and aggressively twisted it, snapping his neck and then slamming his face, hard against the decking. The infected man was dead. The cracking sound was awful. I pushed the immobile infected off me and attempted to regain control of my breathing. Janine stood over, reached down, grabbed my arm and pulled me back to my feet. I angrily yanked my arm out of Janine's grasp. That's when Tara, Mike and Dotty appeared. They'd just returned from their drive and heard all of the commotion. Auntie Meryl and Dotty also joined them. I wiped the infected's blood from my face and tried to compose myself. "What's going on?" asked a frantic Mike. Everyone looked down at the dead infected. "It's OK," said Janine, "I sorted it. Luke are you OK?" "Yes, I'm f*cking OK," I angrily snapped, "I can look after myself. I don't need your help." "Did that thing just attack you?" Esther asked me. "Yeah, but I'd have been able to sort it," I said, looking after my pride, "He's just a lone wandering infected. He caught me off guard, that's all." Dotty looked at Janine and then looked back at me. "Luke, I think Janine just saved your life," she said. "Did any of his blood get into your eyes or your mouth?" Janine asked me. "NO, NONE OF HIS BLOOD GOT INTO MY F*CKING EYES OR MY F*CKING MOUTH!" I angrily shouted. I then stormed off. Mike quickly followed but I told him to leave me alone.
I spent the rest of the day in my room in a mood. I spoke to Tara and told her that I was p*ssed off. I'm just as angry with myself as I am with Janine. I let my guard down and got sloppy. Not good to do with someone like Janine around. I need to remember there's infected around and that they could appear at any minute. It's a good job this guy was on his own. I hate the fact that b*tch Janine is here and now I hate the fact that she saved me from an infected. She'll be milking this for all it's worth. Well if she thinks I'm going to say thank you, she can kiss my arse. I just want to get as far away from her as possible.
