Day 710
Monday 6th August 2018
I tried to find out more about this underground bunker and the unknown person who'd arrived back at the zoo, today, but as soon as I saw Kyle and tried to speak to him he skated off.
In the morning I was talking to TJ, Trudy, Mia, Parrissa, and Auntie Meryl about our current situation. "So do you think we'll see the others ever again?" asked Mia. "Probably," I said, "It's a zoo, not a city. They're around here somewhere." "I don't like it when we all fall out," said Mia. "You weren't saying that when you fell out with your Dad," I said. "That was different," said Mia, "You were there; you know what that was like." "Well I couldn't give a sloppy sh*t if I ever see them again," snapped Trudy, "Bunch of w*nkers." "We're bound to bump into them," I said, "We didn't really talk about all of the things we needed to." "Like what?" asked TJ. "Like who gets access to the vegetable garden and when?" I said, "And about how it's going to work with doing jobs and taking part in the rota." "Oh f*ck off," said Trudy, "They don't own this place. I say we do what we want, when we want." "I don't think that attitude is going to help," I said, "We need to have a chat with them and come to some sort of compromise." "Comprise?" said Trudy, "After yesterday? Are you kidding?" "Yeah," said TJ, "They said they didn't want to see us again." "That's what Roz said," I said, "Anyway, they're going to have to see us again; we've got stuff we need to talk about."
At that point Mike, Naomi and Tara joined us with serious looks on their faces. "This looks serious," said TJ, "Oh Tara you look proper sexy when you have that smouldering look on your face. Fancy a f*ck?" "Well it's hard for me to resist such charismatic charm," Tara said sarcastically, "But I'll pass. I'm not sure you'd be able to handle a real woman like me." "Whatever," said TJ, "The last bloke you shagged was that psycho Richard Mackie." "That you know of," sad Tara with a confident but smug smile, "I could have been with plenty of guys for all you know." "You haven't been with me," said TJ, "Saving the best till last?" "TJ, acting like a yob and behaving like a big headed pig is not very becoming." "Oh I'll be coming," said TJ, with a big grin on his face, "I'll be coming over all over your face." "TJ, shut up," said a blunt Naomi, "We've been talking and the three of us have come up with a plan." "Oh great," said a sarcastic Trudy, rolling her eyes, "Another plan. Can't we just chill out and knock it off with all the drama." "That's not what you said yesterday," said Naomi. "Yeah well that was before I had a good night's sleep without having to put up with Thomas's snoring and Richard's smelly feet." "Are you kidding?" said TJ, "You snore like a farmyard animal being slowly slaughtered and your feet smell like that cheese you sprinkle over Spaghetti Bolognese." "My feet do NOT smell you big bullsh*tting pr*ck," snapped Trudy. "Knock it off you two," said Mike, "We've got something we need to tell you," said Mike, "We know where this bunker is." "What?" I said, "How do you know?" "We followed the others," said Tara, "They lead us right to this bunker place. It's right next to the front entrance of the visitor's centre." "They're right underneath us," said Naomi. "OK," I said, "So we know where they are. And? It doesn't change anything. They're still p*ssed off with us." "Yes but it means we can find out who they're hiding down there," said Tara. "You don't know they're hiding anyone down there," I said. "Of course they are," said Naomi, "This person, whoever they are, came back a few days ago and not one of that lot has told us who they are and when we ask questions, they go all secretive." "And Roz was only keen to get rid of us all when this new person arrived back," said Tara, "Something is going on and whatever it is and whoever this person is, it's all connected to the bunker, right beneath our feet." "Oh God, so what?" I exclaimed, "Can't we just let them let get on with their life whilst we get on with ours? Why do we need all this drama?" "Aren't you bothered about who they've got down there?" Mike asked me. "Not really," I said, "I mean I suppose I'm a bit curious but I'm just glad we're not in the middle of anymore trouble. Come on, we need to think about the kids. Whoever this mysterious person is let's just be glad they're not up here causing trouble." "For now," said Naomi, "Don't you want to know who this person is? Or what this bunker down there is like?" "God, can we not just be happy that things have calmed down?" I said, "Maybe, whoever this person is, they just don't like the idea of having new people here. Maybe they just told Roz to get rid of us." "If that IS true," said Naomi, "This person isn't going to be happy staying down there whilst we're all up here. Roz has probably told them about our confrontation." "So what?" I said. "So, maybe they're planning on taking some sort of action against us," said Tara, "I don't think we're as safe as we think." "I think you're overreacting," I said, "None of that lot want any trouble." "You don't know that," said Naomi, "We don't know anything about this new person. We haven't even met them." "God," I said, rolling my eyes, "I'm sure we'll get to meet them at some point." "Really?" said Tara, "I'm not so sure. This person's been here for a few days and none of us have met them. Come on Luke, it's like they're hiding them from us." "Maybe this person is shy," I said. "Oh Luke, get a grip," said Naomi, "Something dodgy is going on around here and we need you to get to the bottom of it." "Me?" I said, sounding surprised. "You did say you'd speak to Kyle," said Mike, "You and him have got some sort of connection." "I wouldn't go that far," I said. "Whatever," said Naomi, "You said you'd speak to him and try and get to the bottom of things. Now, Roz has probably told him to stay away from us but if you can find him and try and get the code off him that would be a start." "What code?" I asked. "There's a code to the entrance of the bunker," said Tara. "Kyle's not going to hand over the code just like that," I said. "Luke, will you please just try and talk to him," said Naomi, "This is important." "You did say you'd try and speak to Kyle," said Tara. "Well personally I think we should just listen to what Roz said and avoid each other," I said, "Roz said she wanted us to stay away from her and the others and I think we should. If we all just stay out of each other's way, it'll be better for all of us." "F*ck that sh*t," snapped Trudy, "I'm not taking orders from that todger dodger. If I want to speak to the others then I will." "You don't like any of them," I bluntly said Trudy. "So?" said Trudy, "I won't have some hairy lesbian telling me what to do." "Luke, you're the only one who gets on with Kyle," said Tara. "No," I said, "He can't stand me. I can't stand him to be honest." "Luke, please just try," said Naomi, "Whether you get on or not he's spoken more to you than the rest of us." "Oh God," I said, rolling my eyes, "Fine. I'll try and speak to him but don't expect miracles, and if I'm trying to get info from Kyle I want you lot to try and get info out of the others if you see them."
In the afternoon after walking around for a while I saw Kyle on his skateboard, skating past one of the empty animal enclosures. "Kyle!" I loudly said, calling after him. Kyle saw me, looked annoyed but also slightly worried and then quickly started to skate off. "Kyle wait!" I loudly said, calling after him. I wasn't quick enough. Kyle quickly zoomed off and I couldn't catch up with him.
In the evening we all reconvened in the staffing area. Naomi wasn't happy that I hadn't managed to speak to Kyle. "Oh for God's sake Luke," she snapped, "We were relying on you." "Hang on," I firmly said, "Why is this all on me? I said I'd try but he's on a bl**dy skateboard and he's half my age." "A quarter of your age more like," said TJ. "You big Nanna," said Trudy, "He's got a skateboard, not a motorbike." "Look," I firmly said, "I said I'd try and I have tried. If you want to speak to him and try and find out who's down stairs and what the code is to get in the bunker, one of you lot can ask him. In fact, you said you'd try and ask the others." "I tried to ask Alison and Kevin," said Mia, "But they didn't want to talk about it." "Richard told me that Roz had told him to keep his mouth shut," said Mike, "I was going to turn up the heat and threaten to feed his own liver to him if he didn't speak but I thought I'd speak to you lot first." "I tried to speak to Thomas but he got annoyed and told me to shut up," said Tara, "I don't think any of us are getting very far." "I still think our best bet of getting any information is from Kyle," said Naomi. "Agreed," said Tara. "Can't we just leave things as they are and just thank God that yesterday's confrontation hasn't resulted in any trouble," I said. "God?" said Parrissa, "God? I didn't think you believed in God. You told me you were an amethyst." "Atheist d*ckhead," I bluntly said. "I think we need to split up," said Naomi, "Look for Kyle and when one group finds him, we use the walkie talkies to radio through to the others, join together and put pressure on Kyle to spill the beans." "Well he might not be holding a tin of beans," said Mia. "Hang on," I said, sounding worried, "That sounds a bit full on." "Luke we have to get to the bottom of this," said Naomi, "This lot are definitely hiding something." "I really don't think some sort of witch hunt is going to help," I said, "Let me just try and have another chat with him." "Oh yeah," said a sarcastic TJ, "Cos that worked out really well today didn't it?" "Well I will try again tomorrow," I said, "If he refuses to give us any info, we'll take it from there."
I don't like the idea of Mike, Tara and Naomi plotting schemes and making plans that could cause us trouble. I think it's about time we all remembered that we've got three little kids here and that right now everything is OK and there's no trouble. I'm definitely curious as to who this new person is but as long as we're safe and we've got a roof over our head and access to food and water, I'm not sure we should be so adamant on finding out who this person is. However, I said I'd try and speak to Kyle again and try and speak to him I will . . .
