Day 657
Thursday 14th June 2018

Well I thought yesterday was eventful, what with most of us being locked underground for most of the day, but that was nothing compared to today's upsetting and unexpected events. We've met some new people but most importantly and tragically, there's been an unexpected and shocking death.

In the morning we were all sat around the kitchen island, talking about our situation and trying to come up with a plan of action. Tara took the lead which clearly annoyed Esther. "So," said Tara, "We're all agreed? Me, Mike, Luke and Esther will go out and look for food, water, supplies and a vehicle big enough to fit all of us in and get us to The Base." "We could just find four tyres," said Mike. "I don't think we want to muck about changing tyres," said Tara, "Let's just find a van or a couple of cars or something." "Well it sounds like you've made all the decisions for us," said Esther. "Well do feel free to contribute," said Tara. "I was a senior safety zone manager," said Esther. "Don't start all that sh*t again, Esther," I said, "Tara's trying to get us to The Base." "I'm the one with management experience," said Esther. "Oh for God's sake," I said in annoyance, "Will you knock it off? None of that matters. Anyway, Tara knows the way to The Base. Do you?" "Luke, I can read a map," Esther said, bluntly. "We don't have a map you stupid cow, Janine took it," I firmly said. "Well Tara could just draw us another map," said an assertive Esther. "I'm not going to waste time drawing maps," said Tara, "We need get out there and look for supplies and a vehicle. Besides, the map's in my head." "Well that's lovely." said a sarcastic Esther, "But what if something happens to you? None of us will know how to get to The Base." A sudden realisation hit us all. "Esther's got a point," said Dotty. "Fine," said an impatient Tara, "When we get back I'll draw a bl**dy map but just remember I don't know the area that well. I just know it roughly and I know the direction in which we need to go to get to The Base." "Well we can worry about drawing maps later on," I said, "Let's just go out and find what we need." "Please be careful," said Dotty, "Make sure you all come back. Going out there on foot is really dangerous." "Thanks for that Dotty," I sarcastically said, "I was already bricking it. Saying sh*t like that is REALLY helpful." "So where are you all going?" asked a confused Auntie Meryl. "To look for food and water," I said. "And a vehicle big enough to get us all in," said Mike. "Janine landed us right in the sh*t when she left," I said. "Who?" asked Auntie Meryl. "Oh I'm not going through all that cr*p again," I said, "We're going out to find stuff that we need." "So you're going to Homebase?" asked Auntie Meryl. "No," I said, in frustration, "We're going to The Base." "To get a car and stuff?" asked Auntie Meryl. "No," I snapped, "We're going out to find a car and stuff so we can GET to The Base." "So why are you going to Homebase?" asked Auntie Meryl, "You won't find a car there. They just do gardening stuff." "No one's going to f*cking Homebase!" I loudly snapped. "So what are you all going out for then?" asked Auntie Meryl. "To look for a vehicle, food, water and supplies," I said, rolling my eyes.

Once all the pointless chitter chatter was over, we got ready to leave. We didn't have many weapons. We left Dotty and Auntie Meryl with the one GRID gun and the rest of us took some sharp steak knives and the long metal pole we found at back at the compound. We exited the house and with extreme caution Mike, Tara, Esther and I walked across the land and on to the main road. I felt a little nervous. I was starting to question if I was up to such adventures after all the recent goings on, but I knew we needed supplies so I didn't dwell too long. The long road was surrounded by trees. Apart from the rustle of leaves and the wind blowing through the branches, a deathly silence filled the air. "Stay alert and get ready to run," said Tara. "We all need to stick together," I said, "So let's just stay close."

Huddled together and armed with our weapons we remained on guard as we walked down the road. "Why are we walking this way?" asked Esther. "We're putting one foot in front of the other, it's the best TO walk," said Mike. "I don't mean that, you idiot," said Esther, "I mean we're walking back towards the compound," said Esther. "We're walking in that direction," said Tara, "It doesn't mean we have to go there." "It might be a good idea to go back there," said Mike, "There were a few cars still there when we left, and we've still got the keys that Parrissa found. Those keys could start some of the cars." Tara produced the keys from her pocket. "Yep," she said, "It looks like some of these are car keys. Good idea, Mike." "No, it's a stupid idea," said Esther, "We should ahead towards Brickford. There's bound to be a load of cars there. Not to mention food and water." "Plus a load of infected," I said, "Everyone knows the towns and cities are full of undead. If we stick to the back roads, the rural and less built up areas, we'll be safer." "There's plenty of places to hide in Brickford," said Esther, "And we'll be able to find weapons and other stuff we need. Out here, we're in the open and looking for a needle in a haystack." "Esther, if you wanted to go to Brickford you should have said something back at the house," said an assertive Tara. "I thought you were speaking for all of us," said a sarcastic Esther, "You seem to enjoy doing that." "Oh God Esther, will you give it a rest," I said, sounding annoyed, "You're getting on my nerves. Let's just get to the compound and see if we can use one of the cars." "If there's any cars left there," said Esther. "Well there's only one way of finding out isn't there?" I bluntly said. Esther was really starting to annoy me. It was like she was deliberately going out of her way to p*ss us all off. It's like she just HAS to let everyone know she's in charge.
